Breaking news...

Goalkeeper Ray Burse today is on his way to Portland, Oregon to check out the city.

The Reason: FC Dallas is exploring the possibility of loaning Ray to the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer League's 1st Division. If this can be worked out, it would allow Ray to have consistent playing time and allow him to continue his development through game experience.

Details are being discussed and finalized with all parties. Check back with us on Thursday for an update on this development.

In the meantime, discuss...

I think it is kind of cool to hear that FC Dallas is looking to loan a player out. It makes me feel like "my boys have all grownsed up". It's like big time European Football. Just make sure there is a no-compete clause in the deal so he can't play against us in the US open cup. Is Josh Lambo ready to be the #2?

Wes said...

It would be good for and Ray and good for FCD too as long as Dario stays healthy.

It would be great for the Timbers since their goalie signed with with the Galaxy (I think).

FCD needs Ray to get time so they can sell him. When Lambo entered the picture the writing was on the wall.

Ray's an excellent goalkeeper, if you read this Ray, keep your head up, YOU are the future and you'll get your chance. Keep up the good work

Anonymous said...

Can he be recalled if Dario gets injured and we need to go with #2? I'd rather have Ray than a very green Lambo between the pipes if needed.

I would rather Lambo get loaned out than Burse.

Steve said...

who will be the third on the GK depth chart with Dario and Lambo?

Edward said...

Well Lambo doesn't cost anything on the senior roster/salary cap, so that's probably the main reason for Burse going and not him.

Anonymous said...

no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
loan out lambo instead!if dario gets hurt or is pretty bad the season is down the drain!

Anonymous said...

This is how it usually works: Burse will still take up the FC Dallas senior roster spot and the salary, but he can get recalled if Sala gets hurt. Lambo will sit on bench and would only play if there is an in-game injury or red card. Burse gets experience and Portland gets a decent keeper for free. Pretty good deal all around.

For once Morrow and Hitch do something right. If you've ever been to a practice you know that Lambo at 17 would make a better back-up than Burse Jr. Josh Lambo is the real future of this team and I have to imagine Burse Jr. saw the writing on the wall.

Anonymous said...

Burse has no choice in the matter. MLS players, with few exceptions, are pure meat with no say in what happens to them.

Anonymous said...

This is what Eric Wynalda meant when he said players walk on eggshells with Morrow because they can't trust him. Morrow told RayJ he would be the starter this season and now he's playing in Portland!!!!! Another player betrayed!!!!

EricJ said...

He said that? Link please to when marrow said that.

HopelessFCDfanatica said...

HELLO??

Eric Wynalda is wrong. No one (unless they are not giving it their all) appears to be "walking on egg shells." (Oh, and how the heck would Wynalda know anyway? Is he in the locker room these days?) And Burse was never "promised" the position. That's absurd. What was said all along was that the player most fit and capable would win the position -- and that has been Sala hands down this pre-season. Just read the articles on the main site, where Kenny and others talk about the team spirit -- that it's never been better.

And think about this! It's perfect for Ray -- He NEEDS more playing time , which he won't get here. it would appear. I think Ray is great, so I am happy with this move, so that he can get the playing time he deserves -- and FCD can sign Rocha.

Read what I wrote!!! Morrow told RAYJ this was his year to be the no.1!!! Now he is sneding him to Portland. How does he go to being the no. 1 to being loaned out?

Ed said...

A. Burse was never promised anything but a fair shot. Sala has beat him out for the #1 spot.

B. No way will Portland get Burse for free. They will pay his salary and probably more.

C. Burse won't count on the FCD roster. This move is to open a space.

Anonymous said...

Morrow did NOT tell Ray he would be #1 this season. He told him the #1 job was open for the best GK. Sala won it clearly.

Vedran Agovic said...

great work and keep at it mate

Anonymous said...

Nothing that Morrow does surprise me anymore. Ray showed time and again on the field last year that he should have been the No. 1 keeper.
It seems to me that in our team if you are a leader you are out of the team. Valakari (Captain), gone.... 2007 Best defender, gone..... 2005,2006,2007 Team leader in points (Captain), gone... Burse, gone....
Just remember that Sala is like Alvarez, a couple oustanding games and 5 or 6 stinkers. Lets hope for the best in this ignorant way of managing a team. I hope I have to eat my own words but at least for me the future looks pretty grim not because of the players but because of the managemet.

Good for Ray. Go get some playing time, so that when Sala retires (soon... he'll want to go out on top) you're ready to hop right into the mix with no fitness questions.

SabreKhan said...

Dear "Anonymous," you have no idea what you're talking about:

Valakari - old, slow, where is he now?
Goodson - wanted to go to Europe, so we let him.
Ruiz - desperately wanted to get back to LA, obviously not the goalscorer of old, flopper, not really well-liked by the fanbase, giant salary cap hit, etc.
Burse - NOT GONE. Only on loan. We still own his rights. This is good for Burse, good for FCD.

Ray showed that he should be the #1 over an injured Sala at the end of the year. When Sala was healthy he was fantastic as he was against LA. I want the best player on the field. Right now, thats Sala.

So now Eric Wynalda is Bob Woodward. I guess Steve Morrow lied about Saddam having weapons of mass destruction as well. I'm not seeing where all the SM venom is coming from. At least wait until the side fails to make the playoffs.

Anonymous said...

First off if you listen to Wynalda you're dumber than he is.
Second if you were watching the same games that I were wacthing than Sala showed you he is the #1 gk THIS year, and it will give Burse the playing time he wont get here. It said LOANED to not sold to, so Burse is still property of FCD.

Dan said...

This move is good for Burse and FCD. Burse is the future of FCD but Sala is the man now.

I, too, would love to see the article that has the qote from Morrow saying that Burse would be the starter this year for sure.

what??? loan out Burse? what if dario goes down...then what???

Anonymous said...

The job was Ray's for the taking. Unfortunately for him he just couldn't handle the pressure or live up to the hype.

Anonymous said Sala only has five or six good games a season, yet if you look at FC Dallas' all-time leaderboard, he has the highest winning percentage and lowest gaa in club history.

If Burse or his fans are unhappy about Portland, they should blame it on Burse. He had a chance to win the starting position and he didn't seize the opportunity.

Anonymous said...

ok this is off topic but I just read the US National team beat poland 3-0. WOO HOO!!

Anonymous said...

on the mlsnet.com front page they have video of FC Dallas vs. DC united. Reminded me of how awesome our team can play!! Cant wait till Sunday.

Heidi said...

Good for RayJ - he needs to play. This puts him farther away from his family and I know that will be a concern for him. It's hard to develop when you are warming the bench.........

Anonymous said...

The job was never promised to RayJ. It was open and Sala won that, he is health and the best keeper in MLS when he is in form like he is. Ray is the buffer between the Now-Dario and the future-Lambo. Ray will be in Europe before he plays 2 years as a started for FCD he just needs to get better at the fundamentals.

Burse needs to win an MLS starting job out right and beat a playoff-caliber team before packing his bags for Europe. LOL. Wins against Columbus and Colorado ain't going to get you to the EPL!

jaybrams said...

I am a RayJ fan and was hoping he'd win the starting job, but Sala has proven he can still do it.

I haven't seen much of Lambo, so i'm not sure how i feel about our depth. Sala is not a young guy, and if he gets injured, there's no telling how long it would take to recovery.

If dario stays healthy, it's a good move all around. Ray has great instincts and athletic ability... the amount of playing time he gets in Portland will be great for his experience.

I think we tend to think too much like american sports fans when it comes to soccer... Loaning out players in the Euro leagues is a good thing. It means you own the rights to a player that other teams want, you can get some money for him before he's ready to take the field, and after he gains the experience, he's back on your club. It's not betraying him at all, it's improving his value and giving him an opportunity to shine.

HopelessFCDfanatica said...

Jaybrams,

THANK YOU for a sensible, and knowledgeable response! I think it might be possible for FCD to put a clause in the loan deal that lets them recall Ray, if needed (maybe), so this really does sounds like a great chance for Ray. After last season, I love to watch both Sala and Burse, so I'm thrilled there's a way for them BOTH to get lots of playing time!

GBoydSmith said...

HopelessFCDfanatica & Jaybrams,
Thank you both for your level headed and sensible responses…always glad to see fellow fans thinking straight and not just spouting off from emotions.

I am also a bit concerned about the depth that this leaves us with, but I think the benefit to Ray out ways that concern (especially if we have a recall clause like HopelessFCDfanatica mentioned).

I really like both Sala & Ray and think that we have two great keepers in them, and it is really exciting that FCD is in the position to loan players out.

I have to say that i'm disappointed at this, just because i like ray j. From what i've heard, Lambo is the real deal though and it wouldn't be the worst thing for him to get a little playing time and see what he's all about. Good Job Sala, just don't let us down like last season

Anonymous said...

This is all for the best. Burse wants to play, but Sala looks like he has returned to form. Lambo will benefit more from the reserve games.

trader vic said...

So now injuries are considered letting fans down? Did Toja let you down last year too? How about Lil Ricky and Wags this week? Don't worry RayJ you'll be happier in Portland. As one former fcd hero told me last season, there ain't no happier soccer player than an ex-fcd player.

Anonymous said...

This is a profession that rewards the immediate not potential. Potential will get a coach fired very quickly. Burse is good but Sala is better. If Lambo is as good as they say then this is what is best for Burse. In Pro sports nothing is guaranteed on the field. Maybe that attitude of "I deserve it" is why americans sometimes struggle in Europe.
By the way I am a proud American.

If almost single-handedly keeping us alive in the first game of the playoff series vs. Houston last season and having an amazing first part of the second game until he got hurt is letting us down, then Sala definitely let us down last year.

And I almost forgot, I'm still mad at you Sala for your heroics vs. Beckham and the Gals. The one time our team received international attention because of Beckham and we didn't look pathetic because you stood on your head for our Hoops again.

Burse was training with the Timbers this morning.

http://timbers.theoffside.com/player-news/ray-burse-training-with-the-timbers-sam-reynolds-gone.html

In the past when the Timbers have gotten a player on loan from an MLS club they have paid about half the salary. Not sure if that will be the deal again this time. The biggest problem for us Portland fans is that he could be called back to Dallas at any time, leaving us high and dry. There are also cases where MLS players become cup tied and we can't use them during US Open Cup matches.

Anonymous said...

1)Burse is better than Sala
2)Sala will get hurt
3)Sala will let in inexcusable goals ( already happend in pre-season.
4) Lambo will not be starting in MLS as a teenager
5) With Davino hurt, looks like more 4-3 losses, or 2-2 ties after we are up with 20 minutes to go

Bad move

Anonymous said...

loan sala, keep ray

Anonymous said...

If you want to talk excuseable goals, you might want to get a tape of the Tigres game.

Burse was a disaster and at fault on both goals. His horrible preseason performance bought him his ticket to Portland.

Face it, if Burse was even close to beating out Sala this spring, he'd be the starter.

Anonymous said...

You can't loan Salo, he makes too much. Lambo is the real deal. Playing reserves will be perfect for him. Plus, you can recall Ray at any time.

For the first time in my memory, we are loaning a player out. That's exciting because it means we actually have some quality depth.

But there are some that just love to whine and cry...

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I meant inexcusable goals. Both of them against Tigres were.

Anonymous said...

Sala is the better keeper right now, hands down. If you look at the preseason game stats there is no disputing it.

We loaned Yi out a few years ago to Atlanta.

I think tonight at 9:50 there is going to be a preview of FC Dallas on channel 33 and I think on NBC on sports extra on Sunday.

i'm not against loans;
i'm against loaning burse.

i've seen sala get scrambled by too many balls/goals to be pleased by this announcement.

he's coming in from the off-season fresh as a daisy. how much speed will he have come mid & end of season?

to me, burse has proven himself #1 GK. yes, sala is still in contention & has played well in our pre-season, but he is injury prone.

& hey, i'm the one who usually posts the positive stuff! ;)

i'd rather we focus our efforts on signing a proven FORWARD instead of messing with our GKs. ;)

captincanuck said...

Like stated earlier RayJ can be recalled at anytime so he is there if we need him. Also i think there will be a clause that says he can only play in home US Open cup matches and ones in Seattle. No extra traveling for him.

Anonymous said...

Although I'm cool with Burse getting consistent starts with a club while keeping his rights, I greatly agree with the striker comment. We need a proven striker, and I hope one will come during mid-season. If Ibrahim is so special, why hasn't he played?

Anonymous said...

You obviously know nothing about this pre-season, FCD Hoops. Rebound Ray has been lackluster to say the least this pre-season. 17 year old Lambo has earned the #2 position over Rebound Ray. This move is make or break for Rebound. He has to prove he's got what it takes and needs to seriously improve his skills. I have to imagine the new goalkeeper coach and Morrow know a little bit more about what they're doing than you do. If Rebound Ray was in goal for CAP or the Galaxy we lose all of those games. Frank

Nothing would have made me happier than to see ray as our starter. You can't trust sala in goal. We got rid of Carlos, thank god, another untrustable player, why not sala?
