FCD 2, CAP 1 - Dallas wins series 4-1 on aggregate

UPDATE (10:15 pm): FC Dallas tonight defeated Clube Atletico Paranaense 2-1 at Pizza Hut Park in the team’s final preseason game before the start of the MLS season. With the win, FCD claims the second annual USA-Brazil Challenge by an aggregate of 4-1, having defeated CAP 2-0 on March 6 in Curitiba, Brazil. Recap and comments.

Ricardinho left the field with a right ankle injury. Xrays taken after the game were negative. He does have a sprained right ankle and contusion on his right foot, and left the stadium in a walking boot. He'll be reevaluated on Monday.

We've started the video archive of the game, so hopefully it'll be available on the site at some point on Sunday.

UPDATE (8:40 pm: second half underway: Abe Thompson replaces Ricardinho and Juan Toja comes in for Marcelo Saragosa.
=====================
UPDATE (8:25 pm): FCD is up 2-1 at halftime. CAP scored first when Douglas Maia lifted a free kick from near midfield into the Dallas area where Leanardo Le flicked it above Dario Sala in the 15th minute. FCD then scored twice within two minutes: first David Wagenfuhr lobbing a 22 yard shot over Viafara in the 35th minute, andthen two minutes later Pablo Ricchetti scored on a free kick, which caused all kinds of chaos.

From up here in the press box, it appeared that the CAP players were waiting for a whistle from the referee. However, the replay doesn't show the ref even asking the players to back up or to wait for a whistle. Pablo also didn't appear to ask for the 10 yards, and he quickly took the kick that caught all the CAP players not looking.

The CAP players ran toward the ref. # 11 Eduardo Salles was one of the ones that made contact, which knocked the ref over. At this point, all the players were in front of the refs, which caused security and the assistant referees to come to his defense.

After giving red cards to both Salles and # Michel, the referees walked off the field intending to abandon the game. They got as far as the endline by the tunnel. There, all the refs gathered with the referee liaison, and Steve Morrow and Bobby Hammond making their plea to continue the game. After a few minutes, the refs ran back onto the field, added seven minutes to the end of the half, and continued.

It's halftime. The video is working.

BTW, update from someone there, apparently CAP scored, then FCD answered with 2 goals, then CAP players attacked the ref? 2 red cards later its 9 on 11.

I appreciate the efforts of Morrow and co to continue the game, but I almost wish they hadn't bothered. FCD should have done much better playing against nine reserve players.

While there was some nice moves here and there, the turnover rate was abysmal.. and more than once our defense was caught very flat footed.

Yea, FCD should have scored at least once vs nine Atl. players, but maybe they did not want Parananese to leave with a bitter taste in their mouths had it been 3-1 or 4-1.
Great win guys, and let’s build on this achievement shall we? There was much improvement compared to last Saturday's game vs LA.
Question: Will there be game highlight's in the coming week?? Thank you for the LIVE FEED!!

I WAS AT THE GAME! I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE PLAY OF FC DALLAS DEFENSEMAN ADRIAN SERIOUX! HIS PLAY WAS EXTREMELY POOR! TERRIBLE! WITH HIS PLAY LIKE THAT AND FC DALLAS OVERALL PLAY ESPECIALLY IN THE 2ND HALF 11 PLAYERS VS 9 PLAYERS, DALLAS WILL HAVE A TERRIBLE SEASON. THEY NEED TO DO BETTER! PERIOD.

LOUD NOISES!!!

Defense was flat & with Serioux playing bad that meant that all 3 back there were bad.
Wagner looked more comfortable at left mid even though Wagenfeur scored. Might need Wagenfeur at left back. Look forward to Alvarez taking over at left mid someday. Get healthy please. Rhine is not the answer at right mid. Maybe Dax can help outwide. Midfield looked decent with Rocha & Richetti suporting Toja. Either Cooper or Ricardino need to score. At least they put some shots on goal tonight. Alot of questions & key injuries will make for a slow start to the season. Hope things improve. Go HOOPS

Did Ricky steal Michel's ice cream when they were kids? Can someone say STEROID TEST!

I like it when Sala wears the Away hoops as his jersey. Can the kit man tell us if that's an option with the new Adidas uniforms? I thought last year the kit man posted here and said something about it being prohibited

^ Great analysis, Anon... Why are so many people anon in this thread? With input like that, there's no need to post anonymously.

Looking forward to Alvarez as well. And when Toja's healthy I wouldn't be surprised to see FC Dallas have a Conference Championship year with Toja as MVP.

I have a blog on the Atletico Paranaense and provided information partners ask if there is a blog of Dallas in Spanish?

Thank you very much from the upper midwest filled with snow! Where can I get a long sleeved Sala Reading-style jersey?

i still cant believe the ref got attacked..
the first half was pretty good but the second half was just awful ; we should have been able to score against 9; kinda disappointing...but the goals were really nice.

I have to think that mostly we just took our foot off the pedal in the second half. Really not that big of a deal.

Wags goal was awesome!!

Although the public comments by Morrow say otherwise (from the FCD main site), I would hope that the guys would try not to embarrass their sister club further. I thought they seemed to be working on passing and stuff in the seond half, and trying to be patient, and thus not pushing too hard for another goal. Afterall, they were ahead 4-1 on aggregate.

BTW, it was great to see Toja in action again! :D

GO DADDY WAG WHAT A GOAL!!!

We were up at the teim 4-1 on aggregate and they were down to nine men. No reason to pour it on expecially with the partnership that we have with them. Besides, look at our lineup in the second half. Not what you would exactly call our starting eleven.

7 days til the season!! hell yeah!!
