Steve Morrow on the game: “I think we started the game very well; we possessed the ball well early on. I think as each game has gone on through the start of the season we’ve started to move the ball a little better. We came in here with some big players missing as well; we left Toja behind, Ricchetti behind, Bobby Rhine behind, so to put in the performance that we did is a credit to the guys. The subs came on and did a good job as well. It was a real team effort tonight. "

GO HOOPS!
WOW!
Great job, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
WOOHOO!! That a way boys, good luck this Thursday. Wish everyone a quick recovery after that physical game.
Only unbeaten team in the league! Who would've thought we'd be able to say that this time last month?
Great Game!!! Wtg Hoops!!
FCD -- 1st in the West and the only undefeated team (after 4 games, but still)!
Houston -- winless and in last place! Bwhahahaha! This moment is to be thoroughly enjoyed (while it lasts).
:D
Told yall about Coop; he is the truth! Do I hear US National Team calling?????
So proud of all of you guys - you showed heart and passion throughout, playing as a team!
Game Grades:
Morrow- 9 Was going to give him an 8 but his sub scored the insurance goal! Who needs Toja & Richetti? :) (its humor- don't freak)
Sala- 8 Two big time saves, but you set a new MLS record for punching the ball instead of catching it. CATCH THE D@#% BALL!!!!
Moor- 7 Good, not spectacular. would have an 8 but you got beat one too many times.
Davino- 4 it's not just your jersey number it's how many passes you connected to FCD players. Does "Davino" translate as "gives up corners" in spanish? That ringing sound you hear is Luis Hernandez calling to see if you are enjoying your retirement.
Serioux- 7 I think we know how much lifting you did this time last year when you were rehabbing- it shows on your throw ins! Now steal the d@#& ball! Throw ins don't make a career.
Wagner- 6 Close ain't good enough.
Rocha- 8 Bargain. Praise be to loan deals.
Saragosa- 7 Stupid fouls or are you that slow? You're BRAZILIAN man! Show some skill, please.
McCarty- 8 Ya had a 9 until the last half hour! Morrow move this dynamo into the middle so he can create.
Ricardino- 6 Headless chicken (but a fast headless chicken)
Cooper- 8 Stay central earn a 10 and FCD wins MLS Cup. You go wide were out in conference semi's.
Alvarez- 6 Craptastic game. even with your ball to Thompson you got to get consistent.
Pitchkolan- 6 Best player from West Virginia on the field tonight.
Thompson- 10 Yes a 10, All this guy can do is score a goal when we need it.
Shea- 6 Was going to give you a 5but since that mohawk thing on your head disappeared I figured you deserved SOME credit. Welcome to MLS.
Direct Kick Broadcast- 4 You guys SUCKED. I don't mean sucked because your homers for Chivas- your broadcast skills are nonexistent.
"Pitch kuh LAN", "alVARez", "serry AH" FCD has a pronounciation guide to player names- read it doofus.
You even took FCD to task when El Cubano took out Moor from behind and got carded for it.
I laugh every time I see people complaining about the pronounciation of various players' names. I've never once heard Dario's name pronounced correctly -- not even by his own coach!!!!
great game!!!! love those jersies
Gritty gritty performance from the guys. 1st place feels nice!
i have to say this team has improved a little more each time they get on the field. I think the defense specifically might be starting to get the new formation. Lets keep it up!
Great game. Can't wait for Thursday.
HEY COOPER - STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAMN FIELD!!!
I invite everyone in the stands on Thursday to help this guy out by shouting this little piece of advice. together, we can all lend a helping hand in bringing home the MLS cup, because if Cooper indeed listens, he'll deliver it for us.
Soccer X = biggest loser to ever post on this blog (that's pretty impressive considering some of the things written.) Like they say, those who can't, write about it on the FCD blog. Sorry your life is so pathetic that you feel the need to rip on every starter on the team after a 2-0 win against Chivas on the road.
Unfortunately, you're not an equal opportunity basher. You love the Americans and hate the foreign players. Be positive and support your team.
awesome job guys!!
the jerseys looked really cool, especially the long sleeve look.
as far as the game...the possession looked great for all but 15mins. i thought we were actually going to see quality ball motion, but probably due to the loss of pablo, we started giving it up again. i liked how we challenged and made tackles on balls. we won a number of them.
now the bad...blake wagner is a turnover machine. he put pressure on our defense by losing balls too often. he was pissing me off last nite. i thought he played well last week, but regressed this week. i would've like it if brek came in sooner. i hope wags gets back soon.
To anyone who thought that Davino had a bad game, look again. The score was 2-0. While he might be a bit slow, he shut down the Chivas player (usually Gallindo, I think), almost every time. The fact that the ball went over the endline vs. the touchline is less important than the fact that a) Gallindo (or whoever) had no shot or a very limited shot (Chivas had a total of TWO shots on goal, btw), and b) NO ONE scored.
Really missed Ricetti & Toja. Ricardino was only good for the 1st part of the game & saragosa cant keep up with the pace of play. Great to see Brek get a chance but he played nervous (expected). He'll do better next time. Hopefully this will force Wagner to continue to improve. For those of ya'll that want Dax in the middle I would like to know who you would put outside that would hussle as much as him. Great job Morrow.
Go Hoops
Q
Great job, great uni's, and maybe In-N-Out the night before all Cali games from now on?
Q,
I would like to see Dax in the middle and would like to see Rocha on the right wing. Rocha started his career as a right back and is a strong tackler. Plus, I would feel more comfortable with the 6-1 Rocha defending in the box then the 5-9 Dax. I think we would get even more offensively from Dax with him in central midfield then we are getting with Rocha.
Not complaining mind you, it was an excellent win, just answering the question.
Skeeter
Did not no that about Rocha & all uour points are valid. I'm just not sure he would put the work in that is needed to play out wide. Worth a shot though, especially since Dax will be gone for the olympics & someone will need to move out wide. Now is the time to try it, even if it is just in spots during the run of play. No subbing necessary.
A-B-E What a goal, much better than Kenny's I thought. But, they all count the same and they all count for FCD. Thought he deserved some love for goal of the week.
i agree w/ skeeter also. w/ dax, he can help QB the offense w/ his ball control and touch. he'd be a great focal point to run this offense thru. rocha would be better outside. it would allow him to go forward and put pressure on the flanks. plus, he can do 2 man games w/ the fwds and be an offensive threat.
3nout Here's the real facts.
I am a professional coach who happen to be at the game last night as well as a number of other coaches including Bob Bradley of the national men's team. I beg to different with you regarding Blake Wagner. I and many of the other coaches feel he is improving greatly. That in fact he had a good night. Both his offense and defense is improving. He was able to get forward into the play much more often, backing up Cooper well the last few weeks and would have been able to cover if Cooper missed, and had a good header that just missed wide right. Overall his defense is coming along nicely and so far no one has scored in any of games from his side. He is definitely holding them at bay and doing a good job. He was mostly doubled teamed when he lost the ball as well as many of the players were during the game. I feel he has a very bright future and have watched him over the years and know what a great all around player he is and when he gets completely settled in, will be one of the best players on the pitch. I have seen him do it before and know he will very soon start doing it again and again. My vote is to keep him in the starting 11. I know Steve recognizes his many talents, in fact he is the one who recruited him, and also agrees that Blake is going to develope into on of the teams better players. Lets be possitive about the young talent and help push them to their best. Good job Blake. All of us that were at the game last night are behind you.
Soccer Y (or should I say Mrs. Davino?)
Your criticism would hurt if you were even remotely intelligent about the game, but your utter lack of reading comprehension makes me wonder if you passed fifth grade TAKS.
"You love the Americans and hate the foreign players."
Typical of someone who was held back three or more times. Go back and reread:
Davino got a 4
Four AMERICANS got a 6
ALL of the other foreigners got 7 or above.
I guess you believe every FCD player earned a 10 ?
If you think FCD was perfect or close to it ask your husband Dulio.
A) Davino is not married . . . must have been his girl friend. ;)
B) You are wrong about the "4" for him. He had a solid game.
C) And if you doubt his abilities . . . well, let's point out that is former team, Club America, is LAST in their division -- a place they have never before been.
Well, i like that most people have been adding constructive comments on here. I think Kenny can do whatever he wants at the pace he's going right now. We're starting to see the Cooper and Sala from two years ago, and that makes me excited
davinio solid game? you gotta be kidding me he sent the ball 8 times for corners. 4 times for throw ins. the italians say a corner kick is a half goal... translate? we could give up 4 goals easily. the guy is scared he does not want to play physical and get hurt. too small to be a center back. those African guys coming with new england will run over the guy, Morrow please start AS as center back on Thursday please!!!!
I just don't know what to make of Davino. He was effective in that the other team didn't score, but did he look good? I don't think so. If he continues to give up corners at that rate, eventually he will get bit by it. But in his defense, he was marking one of the swiftest forewords in the league. I'll give him a 5.
Davino will adjust & continue to improve. Alot of new players in this league dont always realize how athletic the players here are. After the 1st game against Chivas I am sure he was just overeacting & didnt want to make the same mistake twice.
Q
I talked with Coops old man at the last game. I asked him why Jr does not stay in the center of the field. He told me I never taught him to play that way. Neither did Sir Alex Ferguson. Coops is a player who plays a game with the center back or who ever is marking him. He said he takes him long, short, deep and wide. This will eventually free up someone else to slassh thru the box. It also allows Coops to pick his moments. Good for Morrow who has developed great trust in Kenny's game. The modern game calls for great inter change between the front 3 players. So far so good. Toja, Arturo have also proven this theory..
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I want to vomit. "Sir Alex Ferguson?" If you're trying to impress us it's not working. Mark Wilson also played for Manchester United. What did Sir Alex Ferguson tell him? Do us a favour and give us a break.
Noticed Eric Avila was on the game roster....too bad he didn't get a chance to play in front of a "hometown" crowd. I bet all his friends and family were there. He couldn't have done any worse than Brek did, running around not knowing what to do. Maybe Avi will get to play at home when you guys are in town for the Galaxy.
Nice result...... the team showed resilience in the second half under pressure and did not buckle. Gotta think last year's team would have. That could be the difference this season. Carlos who?
Still wishing it was a 4-0 record but I'll take unbeaten and top of the West while those w*ankers from the Second City are dead last.
Looking forward to a great night on Thursday in Frisco - COYH!
