FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that Steve Morrow has been relieved of his duties as head coach, effective immediately. Marco Ferruzzi, in his fourth season as assistant coach, will coach the team on an interim basis.
UPDATED (7:45 pm CT). Hitchcock held a teleconference call with media this afternoon, where he answered numerous questions on today's announcement....click here for the MLSnet.com story...there are plenty of other wire stories, analysis, opinions, predictions, etc. out in cyber space...
Hitch met with the players at noon today here at the stadium. We saw the last of the guys leave a little past 12:30 pm...we intended on getting reaction from a few of the players, but given how the day played out, we decided to wait until we see them tomorrow.
Today was an extremely busy day for us blog writers, as we took call after call, and responded to many emails and instant messages throughout the day from media and colleagues from all over.
The guys will be at practice on Wednesday at 10 am...we'll look to get comments from a few players at that time...we're expecting there will be some media there also, since some players told us today that they preferred to do interviews following training...

Fair enough...best of luck to you Steve.
Steve basically fired himself by mistreating many people over the years. Steve needs to learn form his mistakes and do things differently where ever he lands. He should get paid thru the year end so he has time to find something.
Good luck Steve.
Nei Franco's technical Atletico Paranaense?
Now if we can fire the person who came up with the half-hooped jerseys and the field mowers we could really have something here.
Well, guess the FO read the 60 something comments asking for SM's head. Or maybe both ends decided it just wasn't working, with Sunday's field product popping the cork on the bottle.
Either way, good luck Steve. Let's go Hoops...
Good Luck Steve. Sorry to see you go now.
I love the jerseys, good luck Steve, perhaps that English job is still up for grabs
WOW.
Thank you, FCD, for seeing a problem and taking action so quickly.
Good luck, Steve.
Poor Steve, first he gets dropped to the ground while playing for Arsenal , now he "Falls" as manager for FC Dallas, good luck to you Mr. Morrow!
wonder if Jorge will come back?
hmmmm maybe if we're lucky Dario will be the next to go!
I'm only okay with getting rid of Dario if we trade him for Turco!
Wow !!! Great job FC Dallas for moving so quickly.
Best wishes to Coach Morrow.
Best of luck in the future. It just wasn't working out here.
Wow!!! From First place on Friday to firing the coach on Tuesday. I know things were not going great but Wow!
"hmmmm maybe if we're lucky Dario will be the next to go!"
You aren't lucky, but you are an idiot.
Hitchcock needs to follow Steve.
But best wishes to Steve and his new endeavors.
Please give Oscar Pareja a call.
The guy bleeds Burn/FCD and could shape these guys up in their native language.
Yeah, let's get rid of our team's MVP so far this season, Dario Sala. It's amazing to me how many stupid people there are out there. Some people will never be happy.
Best of luck to Morrow. At least you won't have to deal with some of the people who know nothing about soccer on this site.
Guess I'll have to retire the moniker SteveToro... Best of luck, Morrow...
If Feruzzi can hold down the fort for a week, I hear Avram Grant will be looking for work soon...
Dario as the team MVP....LOL what a joke he (and the D line) has been the last 2 games.
Hitchcock needs to go now too!
I think it is a move that had to be made, and I am glad to see the orginization seeing a problem and making a move while there still may be time to salvage the season.
I have been a Morrow supporter since he took over and I am sad that it did not work out. I wish him success elswhere.
Former Player and fan favorite Kevin Keegan (King Kev) came in to save Newcastle united this season.
Can Oscar Pareja save the Hoops?
Bring on King Osc!!!
What timing...thank goodness Jose Mourinho hasn't take a job yet...
;-)
Bring on the Special One!!
FINALLY!!! You should give Pareja or Alvial to come back.
Sorry Steve.
Hitch should be next!!!
So that's why Frank Rijkaard left so quickly from Barca...HSG must have told him this was coming...
What is David Dir, Oscar Pareja and Andy Swift up to?
Count me as one more vote for Hitch to go too. Denilson? Shaka? Ozzfest?
has to be Jorge or Oscar, only makes sense.
2 words...BRUCE ARENA
Two more words: HELL no!
who's our interim General Manager going to be?
it may be breaking news...but it's not surprising. much like avery had to go, steve had to also.
to be honest, i've lost a little enthusiasm for the hoops/bars b/c of their run of play lately. this has definitely re-energized me. this team needed this new start.
nothing personal against steve, but this was evident. now on to the new...
didn't marco have prior coaching experience w/ a collegiate team? what was his basic formation...etc?
I'm excited to see him go! It's about time. I vote for Oscar's return. Maybe now some of the guys like Toja that have been playing with a little less enthusiasm will get their game back!!
I'm glad to see him go, it's about time! I vote to bring Oscar back. Now maybe some of the guys like Toja that have been playing with a little less enthusiasm will find their game again! Hopefully he will learn that you can't treat people badly because as he now knows, everyone is replaceable.
you know guys.. whether these men did make some poor decisions or not.. it does not mean they didnt do their best. lets see you guys get out there and try to coach and manage.. than get bashed like you are doing him and the others.. how would you feel? get over yourselves.. everyones working hard.. and trying their best. just wish them luck and say our prayers. this is no ones fault consdering everyone has done thier best to their abilities. now why dont you guys try to be supporitve.. like fans are supposed to be.
good luck to you steve and you are in my prayers.. along with the team and these "fans". you did a great job in my eyes.. and i'm sure in many others.
Breaking News?? I think Breaking Wind would have been a more appropriate title. That's why Morrow is relieved after the proverbial apparently hit the fan.
No doubt they will announce that they have absolutely nobody in mind to fill the vacancy.. either they will hire an absolute nobody or Feruzzi will have his interim title removed in a couple of weeks time. Don't get your hopes up people about big tickets like Maureen or Ronaldinhos future father in law coming to MLS, because it ain't happenin!
Hmm... Very interesting. I hope they have someone already lined up or it will be very rocky around here the next few weeks...
Unless they have been shopping for a couple of weeks there is no way they have someone lined up. I think we have an interim at leaste for the month or two that it will probably take to do the search and hire. Other wise we are getting another MLS retread that did not work out in the last job.
All you people are idiots. Why don't you try and go in the FO and be the GM or the Coach. I can tell you one thing, you would all definitely FAIL!.
GM MICHAEL HITCHCOCK MAY BE A GOOD PERSON I HAVE NEVER MET HIM BEFORE BUT HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED OR REASSIGN TO BUSINESS SIDE ..HE IS CERTAINLY NOT VERY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SOCCER.. THE TYPE OF PLAYERS HE SEEMS TO SIGN LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED
WHY ARE U GUYS REMOVING COMMENTS THAT MAKE SENSE AND DOES NOT FOLLOW THE COMPANY LINE..MR ADMINISTRATOR AT LEAST BE FAIR AND HONEST AND STATED THAT U WILL ONLY POST THE COMPANY PROPAGANDA
SHAME ON U GUYS
You are definitely not equal opportunity deleters. You leave up negative comments about some players and coaches and delete comments about others. The FO definitely plays favorites.
MR BLOG ADMAN..IF U DONT WANT WELL THOUGHT OUT COMMENTS LET AS KNOW WE WILL GLADLY GO SOME WHERE ELSE OR BETTER YET SET UP OUR OWN BLOG
Yes, can you please explain why you have deleted two comments.. both of them said almost the same thing and neither of them contained any offensive language.. infact there are far more controversial and offensive comments that remain posted. What was wrong with those posts????
Take caps lock off.
i think this was inevitable; when you are not going the right direction something has to change. LA has a good coach and they are playing better now hopefully we get a good coach and the same happens.
Good Luck Steve!
Hunt Sports Group is too cheap to fire and pay out Hitchcock's contract. He'll be gone at the end of the season/year and move on to burn bridges at the next team (look at his history).
oscar pareja that would be nice!
Bruce Arena hmm maybe that would work.
Good Luck in everything you do steve! the team was on a down spell no one could take it anymore.
If Hitch even takes a phone call from Arena he should be fired. Arena is suited to serve hot dogs and perhaps sweep the stadium after the game.
GO CHELSEA
Well it was either going to happen now or at the end of the season. Its better to have happened now so that maybe we can get something going before the season is lost.
The last few days have been rough for the all the fans (especially the hard core fans such as myself). BUT... as I read all the comments on this site I realized that more people care about this team than I originally thought. Otherwise these blogs wouldn't be getting over a hundred comments.
I'll see you at the hut on Saturday.
This team would be lucky to have a coach like Bruce Arena. He won multiple cups with DC and did a great job building the national team up till the last World Cup. Let's get a proven coach in here to turn this team around and instill some discipline and motivation that has been lacking for quite a long time.
Steve is a wonderful man! He was good to this team for a long time! Good luck in the future Steve.
I want the Hoops Fantasy League Challenge last year and met Hitch & Cooper at Randy's Steakhouse as part of my prize after the first week this season. Hitch & Cooper are good people and I hope both stay with FC Dallas. Steve Morrow is a good guy too, but I guess it was time for FCD & Morrow to part ways just like the Mavs & Avery. Hopefully FC Dallas can start improving the remainder of the season in time for the playoffs. GO HOOPS!!!!!!!
I saw Mr Cooper today working out. I asked him what he thought about Steve being let go. He told me, FC Dallas players need to look in the mirror first and foremost. Then he said Coaches hire players, players get coaches fired. I asked what is the answer to all what has happened today. He told me simply this, experience and wisdom. Steve will become a better coach for this, the players may be will become better players. Only if they look in the mirror.
It was about time!!!!!!!
AWESOME decision, now, we need PAREJA BACK!!! The players need the human side and the knowledge of Pareja!!!!
OSCAR, WE NEED YOU BACK!!!

A bunch of low class, ctap players failed Coach M. You saw the game. Bunch of pathetic losers. No matter who comes in, they have to deal with lowlife footballers.
Totally not true. Who ever wrote this knows better. THIS WAS A ONE OFF GAME. IF THIS WAS BASEBALL EVERYONE WOULD MOVE FORWARD IN A POSITIVE MANNER. This was one game in a long season. You are partly correct, YOU ARE A LOW LIFE FAN. Steve is a good coach and we have good polayers. Remember one of the greatest songs of all time. STAND BY YOUR MAN.
I believe anonymous meant to say players. Great comments by the way.
Nobody is going to want the job. The GM just demonstrated that if you have one really crap result that he'll fire you... Yes, as ridiculous as that sounds it's true. He inferred that by saying in his statement to the media that if Sunday's result had been different that he would not have fired Morrow.
Mau Utd once went on a 13 game losing streaking under Fergie, but yesterday they won the Champions League.
While the team's record isn't stellar, it's not terrible and most GMs / sane people would have given Morrow the opportunity to turn the team around. By firing Morrow he makes the task of turning the team around about 2x harder.
Hitch you're a nice guy, but you are the one who hired Morrow and while he took the heat for the loss, you have taken none to date - at least not publicly. Time to suck it up and face up to the fact that you have and continue to make bad football decisions. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
That's the first time I can ever recall Morrow ever taking the heat for a loss. He usually blamed at least one or a couple of his players, at least in a roundabout way. That shows me that maybe this wasn't so unexpected after all as he was trying to take personal responsibility...for once.
sorry guys i did not even realize i was typig in caps,,, i was so fired up...again sorry ...but my point still remains ..the gm is the problem with this team..the idea that u have to get south american washed up players to attract fans is an insult to every soccer fan in the metro area..we are soccer fans , we appreciate good " football" played by passing and moving into space we dont care.where u come from .we know dribbling everytime you get the ball will always end with you giving what my old coach called a hospital pass.watch the great teams and see how often their true midfielders dribble ...the gm has purchased all these washed up players. and now some of the young players are learning these bad habits..arturo is a good young player but i guarantee you that if he keeps holding on the ball like that he will not go any place.on all the galaxy goals ...u will see that not once did the midfielders dribble the ball..it was a quick pass move pass move ..in the net.i will be there this sat as i have done ever since their moved to frisco.fire the gm....
Some of you guys are in straight denial!!!SM might of been a nice guy off field but it doesn't make you a great coach. Morrow had to go!!! What's the point of drafting all these young players but you're not playing them. I'm sorry SM because you played for Arsenal and against Manchester United doesn't make you Arsene Wenger or a Sir Alex Ferguson. It was obvious FC Dallas needed a changed. They need to hire a high caliber coach who could bring the best out of their players and not to be afraid to drop them if there not performing. And to those who are calling out people for not being real fan's. Everybody has a right to their own opinions you don't have to called them not real fans b/c they wanted the coach gone.
To the HSG:
open up the check book!!!!!!
Sam Allardyce
Frank Rijkaard
Bruce Arena
or highly decorated coach.
Best of luck to SM!! I'm sure he'll bounce back.
And where is Jorge Alvial? Is he going to come back since Coach Marrow is gone?
I think you are partly right Frank. Morrow transitioned from player to assistant coach to Head coach.
This is like working along side your best bud and drinking friend at work, who suddenly takes the role of boss and disciplinarian - can you ever take him seriously?
Personally I think it's always a bad move when a player becomes the coach or when an assistant coach becomes a head coach, as his relationship with the players is forced to change and that can be a difficult transition for both.
No disrespect to Marco, who I'm sure is a good guy.. But I think it would be better really for FCD to go out and bring in a brand new face. What these players need right now is a coach who takes this team in hand and starts laying it on the line.
