FCD 1, RSL 2

Recap, comments, boxscore, highlights on fcdallas.com and mlsnet.com...here's how they started...

-------------------Sala----------------------
----Moor--------Davino---------Serioux---
---Rocha---Saragosa----Ricchetti---Toja---
------Cooper---Thompson----Alvarez----
  • With losses by Los Angeles and Colorado tonight, FCD remains in a first place tie with Colorado in the Western Conference (2-2-3, 9 pts).
  • Dallas is now 8-3-1 all-time versus Salt Lake.
  • This was Dallas’ first loss on the road this season (1-1-2)...also first loss to a Western Conference opponent (1-1-3).
  • Tonight was the first time ever that Dallas has lost a game in which Kenny Cooper scored a goal. FCD is now 15-1-3 all-time when Cooper scores.
  • Cooper’s fifth goal of the season ties him with Columbus’ Robbie Rogers for second-most in the League behind LA’s Landon Donovan (eight goals). It also surpassed Cooper’s goal total of 2007 (four), when a broken leg caused him to miss more than half the season.
  • This was Cooper’s 20th career regular season goal, making him the eighth player in team history to score at least 20 goals, and third fastest to reach the mark (in 52 games).
  • The goal snapped a streak of 236 minutes since the last Dallas tally, an 80th minute goal by Abe Thompson on April 20 in a 2-0 win at Chivas USA.
  • RSL’s 28th minute goal snapped an individual streak for FCD defensive midfielder Marcelo Saragosa – it was the first time this year the opponent scored while Saragosa was on the field. The Brazilian had played 353 consecutive minutes this season without the opposition scoring, which was by far the longest such streak by a field player in MLS this season. New England’s Chase Hilgenbrink is second at 168 minutes.
  • This was the first game this season in which Dallas trailed at the half.

gosh we played better than against san jose but still a bad result. I dont like Toja on the left wing. He becomes completely absent from the game and he is too talented for that to happen. Half the time I was wondering if they had subbed him. There was a lot of small mistakes that eventually just add up. Our defense is good but when they mess up its always almost juvenile and completely fatal. I think we played with more desire this time but the forwards have got to finish; with those couple missed chances we could have tied or won but close doesnt count in soccer ; you have to execute and finish. I finally really really liked the way rocha played. Love the assist to Cooper. Richetti is always solid. The passing was better but still to many small mistakes. Lastly Toja looks slow; what is going on with him? He seems like a semblance of last season. I know he is talented and amazing but something isnt right?

is that true? hmm. he is playing badly. Thats too bad. He was my favorite player last year. I am watching the LA New York game. Wow! Beckham and donovan really get each other wow.. Im worried about next week with our inablility to finish and our midfield making so many errors and the disappearance of Toja.

Rumors from where? Quote your source please. Also, if you recall, Toja a) was coming off a preseason injury at the start of the season and b) got injured again in the NYRB game. Prior to that game, he was playing just fine, if not yet at full fitness.

Davino also had a preseason injury and has come back well --- all while figuring out a new league.

Ricchetti and Serioux have both taken some knocks but found their footing.

This more than a Toja fitness injury. If it was just a case of him being fit, he'd half a strong start and than fade out. He looks listless from start to finish.

I dont think that sounds like Toja. thats seems too petty. I think since he has been injuried he hasnt had as much time with the team and was behind on fitness and now it seems like Dallas likes playing long passes and crosses which I think Rocha is pretty good at but that style doesnt benefit how Toja plays. He plays on the ground and last year could think fast and see plays in advance ; the team is doing alot of long passes and he looks lost. Its more european like and not the south american style that he plays soo well. He is alittle slow and his passes are really short and ineffective and at times when he gives the ball to one of the guys and makes a run; a give and go ; they dont give him the ball back. I really dont get that. I think he is really disconnected from the team for some reason.

He is playing in the shadow of his former self. I dont know why but I really hope he comes back stronger than ever because last year he was by far the best player on the team and up till august he was the MVP of the League. He has amazing talent so I hope he snaps out of this.

Toja Hasn't played "Fine" since the All Star Game Last Year. In the words of Panic Channel " Your not who you said you where, and not what we need"

I try to stay positive, but it is not ok for this thing to lose two straight to expansion teams! It is not ok to score ONE flippin goal in 3 games! This offense sucks! Bring someone in here that can orchestrate an attack from the midfield and create more chances for Cooper. His amazing goal is the only one scored in three games? You can't expect him to perform magic each week for your team to win. Despite Coopers heroics, Yahoo Serioux was the best player we had tonight, unfortunately he only played an hour. Which begs the question, why is a guy with a history of knee problems and who missed last weeks game playing on that surface? Wallace played well last week, why not start him and save Yahoo for the rest of the season?

Now that I got that of my chest...Maybe I can get some sleep now.

Please don't start false rumors on the comments section.

I guess we all just want to see Toja at his best because he is so entertaining to watch when he is playing well and when he plays amazing the team is unstopable. Glad to hear that was a rumor.

what??? so I take it you know for sure than. Are you the source? Even so I think his competitive nature as an athlete would be greater than petty disagreements and if he confides in you , you probably shouldnt publically say it but I still think youre spreading rumors.
Toja is a really great player; he just hasnt shown up this season yet. Hopefully that changes.

maybe Toja should play forward; its not like the forwards are scoring and maybe we will see more involved in the game.

in the game of soccer result is the bottom line you can play very well how you want if you don't finish + you can not guaranty victory on the next game since you played very well today despite a loss. here the team needs to create mentalities keep pushing until the last whistle sounds if we keep getting these results my friends!!! we may find ourselves at the bottom of this group and miss the playoff and this is the year that looks like one of that kind...

Great goals from FC Dallas: 1 Weak goals by RSL: 2 We need to finish better and clean up mistakes in the back and we can be the best team in the league. Win FCD!

Skeeter said...

Finishing is not the problem, we are not generating enough quality chances to finish. Kenny Cooper is one of the best forwards in the league.
Cooper: 14 shots, 9 on goal, 5 goals. WOW!
To put that in contrast.
Donovan: 21 shots, 17 on goal, 8 goals.
Cooper is not even in the top 10 in total Shots and is only in 9th in shots on goal, yet is second in goals scored.

This Team has only managed 70 total shots this season. That puts them in 12th place in the league. Only ahead of TFC & SJ. (Is that company that a 13 year franchise should be in?) Despite that, we are in 10th in shots on goal and tied with 2 other teams for 6th in goals scored. (The Forwards are doing their jobs).

I don't know if it is the formation or the talent level, but our midfield is the weakest link. I thought the Midfield was supposed to be the strength of this team? They are fine defensively, but who can create offense from our midfield? At this point I would say Dax is our only hope and he has been left to toil as a RWB.

Anonymous said...

Yeah a better use of Dax talent would be to place him in the middle. Cant wait till he comes back. I agree the midfield has had some major problems this season but the defense has made some really grave errors.

Anonymous said...

Midfield was weak because it was unbalanced we had two Defensive Midfielders in the middle. Which the main role is to protected the back back four and break up passes. Not created opportunities. It's obvious Toja was out of position. TOJA SHOULD ALWAYS PLAY IN THE MIDDLE where his most effective creating and scoring. Like Skeeter said were not creating enough chances you could see why now how midfield is unbalance.

Morrow has everyone helping to defend for the first time ever and not just leaving the backline out to dry. Unfortunately the support for defense has completely cut off the attacking numbers and very few quality chances get created. Trying the attack with 2-3 players against 5-6 defenders is not working. Our defenders are going to have to do a better job with even number situations which will release the midfielders forward to create goals with more numbers in the attack.

Both goals conceded were when the defense had to defend w/o midfield support so it really is a
'catch 22' situation. Btw, where was Davino providing cover on those two goals? 400K should have bought more than average CB.

If Toja is injured or not match fit,put him on the bench, start Dom
and Cooper up front and start Thompson on the wing or offensive midfield. You will quarantee that Dom's speed and intensity will open
Cooper up to score more goals.
Dom will make any defense tired because he will always be marked
double.

Anonymous said...

I agree Dom should play wing; he is fast the way a wing should be. Toja isnt effective in that position. Infact he is nonexistant. He should be in the middle with richetti creating chances and if he is hurt bench him until he starts preforming like he can.

a good distribution from the mid field is a key to create chances of scoring goals it's time for this team to realize that. Becks sets up great passes and makes great assists and that the kind of passer we need on this team i do not mean to pay 40m for one player but scout for that caliber of passer that will offer more chances to the attack than play selfish and disoriented.
