Abe Wins an Award / Up For Another / Open Cup

UPDATED: Abe Thompson has been named U.S. Open Cup Player of the Round for his two-goal performance in last week's win over Miami FC in the 3rd Round, which included a goal in stoppage time of each half. Visit usopencup.com for more details.

Abe's also up for another individual award as his game-tying header in second half stoppage time versus KC last Friday is a Sierra Mist Goal of the Week nominee. He’s up against New England’s Adam Cristman, Colorado’s Colin Clark, Chicago’s Calen Carr and Chivas USA’s Ante Razov. Click here to vote for Abe and view the other Goal of the Week nominees.

Tomorrow night FCD returns to Open Cup play in a Quarterfinal game against the Charleston Battery here at PHP at 7:30 p.m. CT. We hope you can join us at the stadium, but if you’re unable to, we’ll have a live video feed available online at fcdallas.com. The stream will start at 7:15 p.m., with Ray Canevari providing some pregame coverage.

Good for Abe, he'll continue to score goals if he's put into the line-up...

Any new news on River Plate?

Why are we hosting the semifinal round at SMU and not at Pizza Hut Park (assuming we win and the Wizards win)?

yeah I looked at it and PHP is not the venue if we win. I have season tickets will i have just as good seats at SMU? If not this is outrageous. Hey front office we want our hoops at PHP.

abe's helped FCD big time, but Razov's goal was tremendous. can't see Abe's lucky positioning win out...

Is the SMU feild Grass? I know the parking is bad. So the cup games have small crowds but are they realy that small to fit in there?

SMU ???? Are you serious ??
Well I guess Hitch found his Tractor Pull !!!!
They have crappy parking and that is too far to drive.
Abe may just be the luckiest player on the field. He sucks for 90 minutes, and plays well for 2 minutes and voila - He should be buying lottery tickets !
Congratualtions ABE !!!!!

Abe only played for the second half of the kc game, that is only 45 min but I am assuming you are talking about the Miami game, but at the same time who cares who scores the way I look at it is FCD scored, this is a team sport and like most of you guys out there who dis on Abe you think you would praise the rest of the team more for making him look better then he is, but no you guys decide to bash on him because some good fortune went his way. like the coach said he got an end product and that is what matters at the end of the game

That is the life of a striker. 89 minutes of doing not much then scoring the winning/tieing goal. MOST good strikers in the world are very much like that. Would you rather he had a great game and not scored? (not saying Abe is one of the best in the world mind you)

You are RIGHT FCD did score - BUT Abe is getting recognized for it. Don't get me wrong I am thrilled to death with the goals - I just hate the fact that he has been sucking and a couple of goals fall in his lap as a result of the good play of his team mates and HE is up for an award not the TEAM.
I am sure that SH will put him in the starting line up tonight now !

He probably will put him in along with all of the other reserves, just like he did in the miami game. not that that is a bad thing but that miami team sucked. has any one figured out why the game would be at smu and not php if they win and kc wins?

Yes the parking at SMU is tough, but the field is grass and usually in very good shape.

Too far to drive? That is the same mentality of the Dallas folks who don't attend games in Frisco - because of the "distance".

That is a real fan for you. 45 minutes tops during non-rush hour.

To get to SMU, jump on the DART rail. Get off at Mockingbird station and walk the mile across 75. No parking issues then.

but, we are getting ahead of ourselves a bit; we need to win tonight to even start thinking about the issues for SF.

Is tonights game on TV? Dallas News states it is on Ch 52.

Can someone confirm this info?

(does not matter to me really as I will be in stadium)

yeah we are getting a little ahead of ourselves cus if they play like they did against miami i don't see a semi final game in our future. I heard the game is going to be on 52 also, i have not see anything or read anything that said different.

An FO goon that I know said that the DMN was incorrect. No TV tonight; only webcast.

Excellent point - Charleston is at the top of the USL and we are near the bottom. We could be in for a good old fashion a$$ whippin' if some of our guys - who shall remain nameless until we trash them after the game - do not step up and play to their potential. I believe this game is a great opportunity for the Hoops, I hope they take advantage of it.
GO HOOPS !
