Cooper Staying

FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock issued the following statement regarding transfer offers for Kenny Cooper.

“We received offers from multiple international clubs for Kenny Cooper during this transfer window, but we elected to decline them all. The international interest is a credit to Kenny, FC Dallas and the ever increasing talent level in Major League Soccer.

“Winning championships is our priority, and we feel strongly that Kenny will continue to be an important part of our success as we compete for the MLS Cup this year and in the future.”

That's great news...now like the guy above me said, "Give him the money he deserves!!!"

No doubt, now pay him what he's worth to this club's efforts to win.

great news...sign the boy to an improved deal...we can always transfer him regardless of the raise in pay...he deserves it!

Ha like Michael Hitchcock actually made this decision, he would've taken the money and let the team suffer.

Cooper needs DP money or else he'll opt out of his contract at the end of this season. Hopefully FCD gives him a good enough offer to stay

Dude, but Cardiff is such an awesome place man! And they have one awesome football squadron! I've heard they are seriously looking for the promotion charge for the upcoming semester, Coops would be a straight up fool not to leave for the UK.

Great news. NOW PAY THE MAN!

I think we have so much potential and with Coop still on board, the season is far from over, but YOU.HAVE.TO.
SHOW.HIM.THE.MONEY.

if they don't pay Cooper the money he deserves, he is leaving at the end of this season with both hands waving the middle finger to MLS.

AWESOME NEWS!!!

pay the man before we lose him to our own league, let alone Europe

FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT FOR THE SHIRT!

With all due respect to Anon above, Cooper is the last person on the team that would flip the bird to the team while leaving!

Did MH mention anything about Toja?

Why the Hitchcock comments? Be glad Kenny is staying and focus on the positive for once.

Please pay this man what he deserves. He's one of maybe two reasons I even go to the games! (Toja is the other)

Looks like we are going to miss-out on another striker.

Cooper can leave if he wants to at the end of the season. If they don't pay him around 1 mill a year, he will leave and FCD will not get any transfer money.

This is just an official stalling tactic to get him into a new contract or get someone else signed ASAP. One way or the other it will shake out soon, next 2 weeks or so, he'll stay for a few more years with a new contract and a huge raise, or FCD will accept the offer and Kenny will be gone. The one thing I am certain will NOT happen is that all offers will be rejected outright and Cooper will stay at FCD under his current contract. That would be player management suicide, who would ever want to come play for a club that would handle their players like that? Nobody! If they can't afford what it would take to keep him and/or he wants to leave, they let him go and take the fee, simple as that. I don't know the Hunts or Hitch or anyone in the front office but I can not imagine them just rejecting all offers and keeping him under the current contract to expiration, it would be club suicide. Unless they have agreed to a transfer fee and contract whereby he will finish the FCD season and transfer to Cardiff in the mid-season transfer window, I guess that is a possibility.

I believe the next transfer window is before Cooper can opt out of his contract, but I'm not positive on that.

Cooper deserves to be our DP rather than finding some over the hill player (cough cough Denilson)

Give them a chance guys. They need to iron out the details and notify the media. I am sure there will be a press conference to announce the re-signing of Cooper (especially if it is as a DP). There is no way that they make this statement without having a deal (at least in principal with the player).

I think they are going to get this one right!

Great news for FC Dallas fans and supporters! Lets pay Cooper what he deserves, build-up the team, and go win a championship. Whoohoo!

Whew! This is great news for FCD. Seriously, we need to appreciate the kind of quality striker Kenny is. Though he remains at FCD for the present, as we just saw, his superb play will continue to gather interest from other clubs and the price will only get higher.

Great decision by FCD to keep him.

Give Kenny a real offer this time. Don't let him get away only to sign an over the hill DP that may or may not increase attendance. Kenny has proven his worth.

Of course, he may decide to continue his career elsewhere, but at least put the ball in his court. Make him an offer he can't refuse.

Congratulations to the FO, Kenny Cooper and the FCD fans. This is great news. Whatever else the details are, the FO and Kenny (and his staff) have at least seen the merit of staying here, even if only for the short term. I will stand by my comments made to an early blog about Kenny and getting recognition. While Brian Ching maybe a player of some caliber, the way Kenny is growing and producing, the USMNT would be remiss in not finding Kenny as the striker for their effort to be a major competitor in 2010. If MLS is really wanting to grow the league at the grass roots level, it must be willing to recognize international type talent in its own ranks and show their earnest in keeping the local talent in MLS.

FCD would be hard pressed to find a player outside, or inside, the US that would bring people to the games like Kenny does. Kenny brings more to the table than just soccer talent. He brings a humble, sportsmanship that is carried by hard work on and off the field. For those of us who have had the opportunity to talk to Kenny, he is man of strong character who does not see himself as the face of the franchise but as an equal supporting cast member in this team. His word is his bond and he will not shrink from his responsibilities or back off from his promise.

I am sure, for Kenny, money is not the main issue but quality of life and a promise of a bright future. Kenny can get that here. It is up to the FO and the fans to show him through commitments, whether financial or support of some kind, that he is appreciated and the bright future he wants is open and available through this organization.

Let's win the cup!

GO HOOPS!

why would hitch want to sell anyways?

its not like FC Dallas gets 4 million straight up.. about 1/3 of it goes to the MLS... and only what? 600,000? could be used toward bringing in a player...

and 4 million for a goalscorer is a bargain in the UK... especially when your dealing with relegation and promotion...

Good call hitch!.. i think FC Dallas understands the value of a young goal machine.

I agree with your comments 100%! Well said!

This is terrible for his future as a player for the national team. He needs to be in europe, regardless of where, not in MLS pussing it up with Donovan while being on one of the worst "franchises" in MLS.

clm1403 - Why does Kenny have to leave to become a better player? The MLS is growing and I for one am extatic to have Kenny in hoops for another season. Whats the latest with Toja's injury? FSC said he makes 80 something thousand ... he needs more money. He is national team quality. Good for you Kenny good luck.

Cardiff must be hurting!!!!!!!!!

BEST MOVE ALL YEAR!! Hope they are able to give him a good offer to stay. He deserves it.
GO COOP!!

Anonymous said...

the reason why he has to leave is you can become much a better stricker when challenging good difenses of MAN U, Chealsea, Psg,Bayern... If you stil want to deal with Vanney and Xavier? these guys are all used up it's not a good athmosphere to improve as a player, for once in a life time Hitch has come to his senses, keep the Giant here pay him the money.
Tevez was paid 69million to leave MANU,so beware guys when the big doggs flip wallets MLS and HITCH will all be vulnerable and we will loose Cooper anytime soon.

I'd rather lose Kenny to West Brom, Bolton or some other first division club than Cardiff. No offense to them. They had a nice run in the FA Cup, but they were only mid table in the Championship League.
We need our US players on first division squads. I still believe MLS is better than any Norway club as well.
A transfer to a bigger leauge will be possible in January. Injuries will occur and some teams will need a QUALITY striker to either move up the leauge table or avoid relegation. But MLS needs to start pumping him up more like they did for the highly overrated Eddie Johnson.

Go SMU....I mean Hoops!!!!

Great news for FCD fans!

I hope that Kenny does not feel disappointed.. his chance will come and I'm sure that when it does that the opportunity will be even better for him, provided that he keeps his head down and continues to show the work ethic and professionalism that he has shown to date.

Keep up the great work Kenny! We love you!!

FCD - please reward Kenny appropriately. People like him do not come along every day.

It is easy to say he'd be challenged more by EPL teams...but Cardiff is a championship side...he may see one of those teams once or twice all year.

If the MLS is truly trying to gain form...then they can't afford to lose home grown talent!

Yeah, there might not be any world class goalkeepers...but I do believe the talent level is coming up. Matt Reis put on a hell of a show against FCD.

Give it a chance...will ya...

Maybe I don't understand, but since Kenny is choosing to not re-negotiate his contract, it sounds like he will not get any more money? If that is the case, it seems logical he does plan to leave after the season. Am I wrong? (Hope so!)

I think Kenny C will be with us until the end of the season. Right now he has an oppurtunity to get better offers in the off-season. He needs to go to a premiership team, 1st division isn't going to cut it. I don't care how you word it but everybody's dream is to play in the top division over there.

damned if they do and damned if they don't

Anonymous said...

WHY, WHY, WHY would a player of Kenny Cooper's caliber want to stay at F. C. SMU? They are cheap, the owner is greedy and it is the MLS after all.

Anonymous said...

i do not think this situation is good for him. if anyone read the DallasMnews, his father that made comments did not sound happy at all he said"this could set him for life" the way his contract sounds is his salary will not be pumped up but he will get incentives to make him a highly paid man on the team, what logic is this HITCH? pay him a good salary period!
