Here we go...the first news (of the week)...today, we acquired former SMU midfielder Bruno Guarda from Colorado. We give up our 2nd and 3rd round picks and allocation money. Bruno will occupy a place on the teams developmental roster.
Bruno played three seasons under Schellas at SMU. He's pretty excited to go pro, and have the opportunity to finish his degree here in Dallas.
The Rapids won a special lottery to obtain the rights to Guarda on July 22. Special lotteries are conducted by the league among interested teams for players who are not eligible to be discovered and who were not drafted (like Robbie Roger's last year). Twelve of the 14 teams participated in last week’s lottery for Guarda’s rights.

That sounds like a lot to give up. I hope he's worth it.
Well, I'm glad that management is going out of their way to fill in the impending gaps that the departures of Toja and Cooper will leave.
A midfielder??? I thought we had too many of them.
Too many bad ones... i like that Schellas is going after people he knows that can play and are younger... we're seeing a changing of the guard i believe... bye rhine, saragosa, toja?, etc.
Well, apparently he will get to wear his old College number.
I would be lying if I said I knew anything about this kid, but the battle for the A-mid spot is going to be fun to watch. Dax vs Avila vs Guarda. "Let the Loud Screaming Sword Fight Begin!"
Between these three YOUNG guys, I think we have the A-mid of the future. Unless we are going to bring in Raquelme or Bofa (both 29 or 30) I think we should be looking a a true Striker now. In other words, I am no longer interested in Ortega.
Yes, Bruno is a midfielder, but he is an A-Mid.. What we have is a glut of D-Mids.. we have fewer options at A-Mid..
This is either a terrific trade or a minor disaster.
If I told you today that we were giving up Eric Avlia for two draft picks and a partial allocation you would think the FO had lost it's mind.. but if I had told you the same thing at the start of the season you might have thought we'd done a fair trade.
We'll only really know how good or bad this trade is until Bruno shows his stuff.. but apparently Schellas already has a very high opinion.. so he probably feels like he got a good trade.
Blogpeople - You say Bruno is Brazilian. Does Bruno have a green card or does he take up an International slot?
Bruno does not have a Green Card and now brings our total of Central Midfielders taking up international roster spots to a staggering FIVE.
Ramon Nunez played for SMU too.... will SH bring him back?
I hope not. As I recall SH told Ramon not to turn pro. Turns out that was good advice.
I think Nunez needed to grow up and a year or two more in school might have helped him. I think Bruno's attitude is not a problem.
Paid waaaaaaay too much (again) because everyone knew we wanted him (like usual).
YAY FCD!!!
+ Bruno & #1
- Artie & 2 + 3
good day for FCD
Has everyone forgotten playoffs in
Houston. What a meltdown. I wanted best for him but, He is his worst enemy.
Great trade, especially paired with the Alvarez trade. We gain a quality MF who actually plays both ways and an additional first round pick.
Great trade... His game play is what FCD needs!
Bruno is playing en Los Estados Unidos porque Bruno couldn't hack it in his home country - think about it - more of what this league wants to pass off as futbol. Gracias a Dios EPL begins in two weeks!
One by one he will bring all SMU to FCD
