FCD 2, Colorado 2

UPDATED: Well, on the bright side, it's the third straight league game we've been able to come back from a deficit to earn a point...on the down side, we're disappointed as we had taken the lead. Cooper scores his 9th and Toja nets his second of the year. Go to fcdallas.com for the recap, box score, and highlights. Schellas comments...

Yeah! I think we played well and Toja played awesome! When he is on the team is better much better! Playing the ball on the ground rather than those aimless crosses caused the ball to come to him which made all the difference. Go FC Dallas! Next week its payback. Beat LA

Sala as always doesnt know to get off the box.
Moore got killed by Clark, I mean killed.. Serioux gave away the 1st goal. Saragosa played good, hassle for the ball and good antecipation, the pass to the 2nd goal and good runs...
But for you above, Toja was not good,, ok he had a goal and a good shot and then one good dribble during the game. But there was no way to miss that goal, Toja was slow, didnt hassle, got outrun many times, holded the ball to much... Rocha made 3 good passes, had a better game than the last 2 games but still can improve
Dax was bad, dont even have comments for him, Cooper ran a lot and was always asking for the ball, good job. And Oduro, just can finish.....

I think the team looked very sluggish. Not sure what was up with the "wild" passes. I would love to know what you think Toja did that was good besides get a free goal.
Dax looked "tired" early - Sala is a good goalie he is NOT a smart goalie and that has hurt us in several games.
Oduro made a difference - his speed is definitely a threat - he has GOT to finish though !
Another game of terrible officiating.

I Believe he saw the game on the TV, as far as I heard Toja was voted the player of the game (OMG).. But the guy didnt even know why Oduro was offside, lol what a joke.
Toja was slow and didnt really mark that good, he is the A-MID, he needs to contribute a lot more.
I agree that Drew got outplayed by Clark, and that Saragosa really fought in this game.
Good job Cooper, smart play on the 2 goals

the officiating is usually horrible in mls

Anonymous said...

I will for sure take the tie instead of a loss. On the other hand, we looked really horrible most of the game. If we play like this against a better team such as LA, we are going to get waxed. Problem is, I think we will play like this again.

Anonymous said...

It feels like we are on the edge of insanity...putting the same 11 players on the pitch (with the exception of Dax), and somehow expecting a different result.....

Anonymous said...

Toja was running off the ball. He was hussleing back on defense when we needed it and he had energy in his game that we have not seen in awhile.

SO that's what some of us saw tonight so THANKS FOR ASKING.

I agree, the game was better, but mistakes are costing us points. We can't have a "Whoops" here and a "My bad" there if we expect to get back on the winning track. (For the record, a win tonight would have put us in fourth place in the conference, ahead of Houston and Colorado, back in contention for a playoff spot.)

I thought they showed a lot of heart out their for a hard-fought draw. Big improvement from the last few games, yet those little mistakes keep costing us points.

Oh, and why isn't Pablo Ricchetti the captain?

it was better. Sometimes the runs are off though but better indeed. I hope Toja and Kenny do good in the All Star game.

I talked with Cooper's dad tonight in the Verizon Club. I asked him what he thought of the game. He told me while he was not happy in the final result, we are getting better and better every game we play. Schellas has told them to go forward as team in a positive manner. I then asked him what he thought about the up coming LA game. He told me its a guaranteed win for Dallas, only if they listen and cut down on mental errors !!!! Personally i do not care for Coops Dad, he listens intently to what you. If he does not like what you say, he can rip you a new ass diplomatically.

But please others players we need to win ...because if not bye bye playoff ....and new coach I'm with you.... Go Hoops

Richetti should be captain. He has been here and knows the team. If you would wacth him he is alway talking to the other player and running his ass off.

to the poster that said Two quick notes:

Reminder we don't have a ship, we have a bus!

For those of you commenting on Dax if you noticed closely when he came off his leg was heavily iced from what the wife said....

Well the game was better in a lot of respects. Trying to look on the positive here. We are still trying to push everything through the middle. And when we do try and swing the ball out wide its through long cross field passes that are pretty bad. Like I said I think Dax either is still hurt or strained something tonight.

I mean I hate to say it cause it sounds like I am coaching my kids u-10 girls team but maybe getting back to basic soccer guys. There were are few times tonight where even in the middle of the field we had 3 guys right on the ball. Spread the field. Its all there for a reason.

It was good to see Coop pull the trigger from outside the box. That shot will go if he starts to take it more. Toja too. Play Avi longer than what he has been getting. He was a little sluggish tonight but over all he is a little sparkplug for this team.

The officiating was horrible. I have never seen a team that has such a home field DIS-advantage as the hoops do.

As far as payback for LA? Well if the defense cant mark up Becks is going to make them pay......

Anonymous said...

I want Steve Morrow back for coach. THe "Bus guy" is not getting the job done.

Did they REALLY play any better ? I was glad Abe stayed on the bench. I think that was a positive.
The wild passes were a negative, bunching up in the middle, a negative, Clark beat the hell out of everyone in the back - a negative. The officiating - a negative. Coop and Oduro together for a whole game - a positive.
Don't think Dax is healthy - a negative. Avi getting in the mix, a positive, Avi getting in the mix late, a negative !
Holding the ball too long - a negative, playing the ball around the back line instead of moving the ball up the field, a negative.
Hitch still the GM - a negative.

Here is how I saw the game, or at least specific parts of it.

Two errors in the back cost us two goals: Serioux out of position and a horrid, horrid clearance by Saragosa (also Saragosa's mental lapse by picking up the ball while it was still in play late in the game almost cost us).

Alverez need to learn how to use and be comfortable with useing his right leg. Late in the game it had a big, clear lane to shoot through with his right foot but didn't and had the ball kicked away from behind. That or you have him play right, inside attacking midfield so that his left is always got the goal in front of it.

We need to look how we are moving the ball forward. For the most part, every player has his back to the goal. Hence when the ball is played to anyone, they have to do a spin move to get facing goal. We should have at least 3 people moving towards goal at all times. This opens up shots from distance and may loosen up the defense a little.

Good to see some shots from distance. Put a lot of heat on the goalie. If it weren't for an absolutely great save by Condul (sp?) Toja would have had his second goal and we may have won that one.

Let's win the next one! Go HOOPS!!!

Last comments was absolutely bang on. The game was lost through two defensive errors. Adrian made an errors.. which is a shame because other than that he had a good game and Saragosa had a terrible turnover which really built the 2nd goal.. Both unfortunate moments as otherwise both players had fairly solid games.

Dax had an off night. He wasn't himself at all... but I thought Toja was improved although not stellar. The real standout for me was Avila, who was very impressive in the few minutes he played. The guy needs to be a starter, period.

ariel ortega should be the captain.... The little donkey could put the team on his back.

I'll start out with....SoCal Avi fan here!....How can the coach expect Avi to do anything when he puts him in the game in the 77th minute. Hardly enough time to warm up and be productive. Although from what I'm reading here (we didn't have it on TV here in SoCal) he was an asset at the late time he did come in. He needs to start and maybe he will against LA (go Galaxy!!) because Saragosa is out(?). Let Avi play the whole game and he WILL be the ultimate sparkplug. GO AVI!!

good game guys! good to see us actually play like a team. and it was good to see toja play. :)
keep it up hoops!!

even my girlfriend that has no notion of how soccer is played she noticed something on the field and asked me why are the Hoops playing congested in the midfield and the plays were not sent wide most of the game? i calmy told her we'are sucks! we do not know how to play, we are not good! we have a bad phylosophy on how to approach the game. and Cooper was trying to open on wings and called for the ball but at each times there was no pass and he was frustrated by his reactions. please! not another 6 goals from LA next week1

Can someone please shed some light on 3 things.....
1. What exactly is the rumor about Cooper going to Europe ?

2. What is the story that was reported about Toja being traded/sold to Europe ?

3. How will those draft picks actually help us this year ?

Thanks in advance

After watching the last few games (any especially last night's game) it occurred to me that the team formation is really where it should have been at the beginning of the season. Unfortunately, the teams that we are playing are in midseason form and chemistry, but last night's game was a large step in the right direction. I think we will be able to get it all together in time for the playoffs.

In Schellas we trust.

It's nice that Mrs. Avila drops by and posts from time to time.

Ortega for captain !!!! I now know why Pro soccer is always looked upon as a joke around the World. We are on the verge of losing Cooper this week, to pay a over the hill player tons of money. GOD LOVE YOU KENNY, WE WILL MISS YOU FOR SURE.

1. What exactly is the rumor about Cooper going to Europe ?
Rosenborg BK has made two offers to buy KCJ from MLS. Both have been rejected because they have not offered enough...YET

2. What is the story that was reported about Toja being traded/sold to Europe ?
There is a Romanian team (Steaua) with a wacky owner who goes on a spending spree every summer and buys players based on little more then Internet highlights. He has his sights set on Toja.

3. How will those draft picks actually help us this year ?
The draft picks won't help us this year, but the International roster spots will allow us to add some foreign talent to our squad for the remainder of the season.

Anonymous said...

Lets get this strait.
3. We did not get draft picks. We gave them drafted picks for the intentional spots.

Pretty narrow minded of you Matt to think that someone other than "Mrs. Avila" could think that Avi is an outstanding player and will be a force in this league as he gets more playing time. Just wait.....and besides, you all are bad-mouthing the team all the time, I just am recognizing the positive.

matt said...

I never said Avila wouldn't be a force in this league. I'm also fine with people saying that one player played well. However, I'm not fine with the shortsighted view that one player is playing well when the team as a unit is playing poorly; which is the much larger issue. I've followed this team for years and I love FCD dearly, but that doesn't mean I have to ignore the egregious problems that are keeping us at the bottom of the table and neither should you.

Roughneck said...

Dax will be fine. He is still coming back to fitness and he was forced to play left wing because we don't have any wingers. When we get those wingers (please, please, please...), he can settle in at central midfield.

Avi will get more time. I think that's the most he's played in an MLS game. If he continues to perform, he'll take more time away from Toja, Saragosa and Richetti.

If Alvarez has to play, then I agree with the poster saying he should be on the right. He usually attacks from the wing toward the center, and when he comes from the left, he usually can't get the shot away because he was born without a right foot. He's dangerous coming from the right, though.

Wild thought: What about Rocha for left back? He played right back before coming to FCD, and I don't see AS staying around that much longer.

Anonymous said...

I think Ricchetti should have been captain last season as well. Who was the one who kept Fish from getting sent off nearly every game? Pablo

Nothing against Davino, he just doesn't seem to be a vocal leader. Ricchetti rallies the players and truly fights for the shirt, something a few of the other players could learn to do.

Anonymous said...

No wonder the PHP attracts less and less people every game... We have NO ONE to score!!!! Everything takes place in the midfield, but no one scores… The referees in every single FCD game have to be against us!!!!!! REFEREES ARE KILLING THE MLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And of course, the story will be repeated on Sunday again, when we will have another episode of pretty boy Beckham, “the untouchable”, and the referees, the crowd and everyone else in favor of the Galaxy!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

Anonymous said...

COOPER, the giant doesn't know what to do with that ball. He is always stumbling with himself. Is it a coincidence that every time cooper has the ball, he looses it??? He is the worst player in FCD!!!!! Now, he decided to jump rising his arms after every free kick. This is not basketball Cooper, in soccer we have something called hand ball!!!!

Anonymous said...

WE NEED SOMEONE TO SCORE!!!!!! WE NEED FORWARDS. TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE MIDFIELD!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Rocha and Saragosa, best FCD players!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Not to get back onto my stats but.....
Cooper the "Giant" not knowing what to do with the ball may be a little bit of an exageration.
Cooper has 9 goals, the top scorer from each of the teams in Western Division line up like this....
LA - 12
Houston - 6
Chivas - 5
RSL - 4
Colorado - 4
San Jose - 3
So he may hold the ball a little too long, and yes he has started that goofy jumping up in the air with arms waving around - which is funny to see - but I think he knows what to do with the ball.
He does need someone up there to help him. Oduro made a good run at that job Saturday night. Yes he was off target, but he sure got some shots off.
We need Cooper -

Anonymous said...

Well....Matt...being that I live in SoCal and can't actually SEE the Hoops play in person it would be pretty stupid of me to comment on how good or bad as a whole they are doing. I'm a Galaxy fan, but I'm an Avi fan too. So.....

matt said...

Here's how our goal scoring breaks down:

FORWARDS
Cooper - 9
Oduro - 4
Thompson - 3
Alvarez - 3

MID FIELDERS
Toja - 2

DEFENDERS
Moor - 1

Mr. Anon, our forwards may have their own problems with missed chances and such, and maybe yes Cooper needs a quality partner up front, but there's no denying they are the most productive. I think the midfielders need to start getting aggressive. If we're going to play with five midfielders, Toja can't be the ONLY ONE scoring.
