John Ellinger is traveling to Argentina and Brazil next week to look at players from River Plate and Atletico Paranaense, respectively. He leaves on Sunday and should be back for the LA game.
Today, we finalized two trades...
We traded our natural 4th Round SuperDraft pick in 2009 to Kansas City in exchange for an international slot...we also traded our natural 1st Pick in the 2009 Supplemental Draft to Columbus for another international slot...
UPDATED (6 pm CT) - both international slots revert back to the original teams following the 2008 season.
Dallas now owns six picks in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft:
- One first round selection (natural)
- Three second round selections (natural; Los Angeles’ natural, acquired in Jan. 2008 in Carlos Ruiz trade; and Real Salt Lake’s natural, acquired in June 2007 in MLS Ruling when Jeff Cassar joined Real Salt Lake's coaching staff)
- Two third round selections (natural; and Chivas USA’s natural acquired in August 2007 in Ramon Nunez trade).
- The team also owns its 2nd, 3rd, and 4th natural selections in the 09 Supplemental draft, as well as San Jose’s 3rd Round pick acquired in March 2008 in exchange for rights to Jamil Roberts.

wow! Those trades seem to be quite a deal. draft picks for International slots? Seems as if something potentially good is in the works.
Interesting trade.. especially since many of the underperforming overpaid players are internationals. This can't be good for the likes of breakthrough US talent like Avila and Brek.
The deals must be close. I would expect some good news before the All-Star game.
The plot thickens!
Wow...so...two new international players are coming. God, lets hope they are from Riverplate...even their youth system. I'm crossing my fingers.
the price for the slots sounds great. Are they only through the end of this year or something?
This is exciting news. Thanks to the leadership for trying to find ways to make the squad better. Thats all I have been asking for.
My guess is that one of the Int. spots will be used to sign Sikora.
Are they just slots for this year? That's my guess at that 'price'.
If not, those are quite the steals...
So...when is the Toja, Alvarez and Thompson getting traded?
and we'll be getting 1 more int'l spot once toja gets sold.
This isn't Hoops related, but I had to share it anyway...

Apparently the Revolution aren't just good at soccer :p They're crime fighters too!
international spots, drafts, 2009 pics etc... what the hell is that? we are in 2008 and the season is going to the end what do we need right now to resurect the team? these drafts and pics don't help us at all we have a couple of players selected in those drafts and still can not smell the grass on the park... and they stink! sign Etoo, drogba Obi mikel Lampard or some guys of that caliber and we will talk business, not some kids that will just sit on the bench and being spectators like some of us. the next time this bus stops we must make sure the driver SH takes a rest and be replaced by Oscar and it seems our GPS has lost calibration and needs to be readjusted.
FYI to the above Anon: it's not the draft picks FCD needs right now, it's the Int slots, since Ellinger is going to S.A. FCD already HAS one (or two, depending on Wagenfuhr's status) open roster slots.
FYI 2 to the Anon 1:17 am poster:
Please read carefully -
1] All of our international slots are taken
2] You want to bring in some international talent now
3] BUT you must have three things before you can add new players to team right now:
..1...Cap $pace - check
..2...Open Roster Spot - check
..3...Open international spot - oops!
4] Trade for an international spot.
now you can add a new international player to your roster!
OK kids, run along and play nice - it's game day!!!!
OK, looks like the FO is throwing in the towel on this season and put all of our eggs in the draft. So maybe we will get see some more of the young guys playing for the rest of the season. That could be exciting. Be interesting to see how much playing time Toja gets tonight.
"OK, looks like the FO is throwing in the towel on this season and put all of our eggs in the draft. "
OKay, once again . . read the post by chazhelms. This is NOT ABOUT draft picks. It's about acquiring more INTERNATIONAL SLOTS right NOW (ie this season . . . looking for improvement NOW).
Sheesh . . . pay attention, people. :P
yeah the New England Revolution story was all over the news last night. Thsts crazy. Im glad all the passengers and them are ok.
slots for just this season arent that encouraging.
I really hope FCD can nab Ariel Ortega. A forward of this caliber and experience can give this team a much needed offensive boost which will, in turn, take some of the pressure off of our defense.
