Two-A-Days

The team finished training today on a strong note with a common drill that seemed to be kicked up a notch. Here’s how it works – the team is split into groups of 4 field players each and the game is played on a twenty yard field with full goals, with the groups rotating in and out quickly (keepers stay in the nets).

The small field doesn’t allow for any rest and you could hear Schellas encouraging the guys to play tight defense everywhere on the field in order to cause a turnover and create a quick transition score. To top it off, some groups played for two minutes while other groups played for one. This of course means that if you’re one of the teams that just played for two minutes, you only get a one minute break before you get back out on the field.

At the end of the session, everybody had tired legs and Schellas applauded all of the guys for their hard work. This afternoon, the team will also head over to the Michael Johnson Performance Center for some additional core strength work, before coming back in for regular training tomorrow morning.

maybe we could take it easy if they were well conditioned, but let's face it...they look dog tired towards the end of games. This can't hurt at all

wow...my daughter's high school team practices like this every day and you can tell by the end of the game when the other team is tired and we're not. FCD should have been training like this from day one. And if these guys can't handle it then maybe they should play a different sport. If they worked out like this on Saturday maybe it would affect a Sunday game, but Thursday......duh

I agree. Working out hard like this on a Thursday can only benefit them on Sunday. There is enough rest period and as long as they take it a little easier on Friday or Saturday for practice then the soreness will get out of their legs and they will feel fresh for Sunday.
