FCD 1, Columbus 2

UPDATE (Postgame): Dallas was up 1-0 at the break courtesy of newly acquired forward Jeff Cunningham, but the Crew fought back with two goals in the second half to end FCD's unbeaten streak at five games.

Cunningham's first-half goal was the 100th regular season goal of his career, and the first against the Crew, the team that drafted him in 1998. In addition to Cunningham, Dutch midfielder Victor Sikora also made his FC Dallas debut tonight.

Dallas' shutout streak ends at 265 minutes dating back to the July 19 game versus the Rapids., the longest such streak of the season.

we traded toja, alvarez and dom for avila sikora and cunningham...what a great deal

Cunningham can actually control the ball with poise...and what a run by Adrian!!

now if drew would just stay between his man and the goal all would be well

Anonymous said...

why would you put in saragosa why

Anonymous said...

maybe SH will learn play saragosa and we lose. Great first half. Doenhill after the subs. Eric was playing great and Rocha was conecting well with adriean. All of that stopped when saragosa came in. Bruno sucks too. Dello would have been a better choice. Man this sucks.

Anonymous said...

From the point that it was announced that Saragosa was going to come into the game it all went to absolute crap. Really, after watching his play this season it is not a coincidence. And...Saragosa at attacking mid...Shellas please ...NO!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

On the other hand, the first half should be used as the model for the rest of the season.

Unlike trhe beginning of the year, in spite of the loss I still have great hope for this team. We were just a few clicks from walking out of Columbus with a 4-2 win.

The SMU choke!

It really looked like the team took their foot off the gas after the first goal. You can't play like that - I don't care if you are away or how good the team is. Minute 70 is the earlier you can relax with trying to get scoring chances like they did, and I'm not even sure you should do it then.

Anonymous said...

you bunch of homers can get as excited as you want - I was totally unimpressed. This was terrible game - Cooper was lost with Cunningham in there. All of the new guys threw the team out of it's rhythm, Saragosa is a waste.
This loss belongs to the coach - and I am very disappointed but not surprised. Cunningham has not been brought into compliment Cooper he was brought into replace Cooper when leaves after this season.
This team is a bust

Pablo is sucks.

Loosing by a goal to a very good team, at their house, is not a result to loose your cool about. I thought the team played very well and showed continued improvement. Some of the substitutions left me scratching my head however (or, I may just have lice).

YAHOO SERIOUX was, without a doubt, the man of the match! He contributed on the attack and was a beast on defense. He looked like a beefed up Danny Alves out there. Awesome Performance!

Anonymous said...

The subs are what killed us. SH don't sub just to sub. Some times the "bus" can go from point A to point B with out a stop.

Anonymous said...

Pablo is a waste...

This coach should have spent money on defenders than bringing in Cunningham,Bruno and victor.
FCD should have scored 3 goals just from Cunningham alone but wasted those chances i bert if it was Dom he would be getting the heat as "none finisher".
Cooper and Dom were begining to understand each other by winning
two straight games why make a change when everything is working fine?
Cunningham started playing in the league 1998 soccer was a joke by then.lets make sense here and do some calculation 99 goals in 10yrs
that would be 9.9000 goals per season.compering his current age,
his inefficiency in the last 3yrs.
what is prolific about him to sub a
future striker to a declining striker?

matt said...

No more Saragosa please.

Anonymous said...

The only time Cooper touched the ball was on set peices. We dare not sub him even if he is not making any contribution.

Anonymous said...

well, "Socal Avi fan" here. Totally different team when he was taken out. I'm just sayin......

lerchinc5150 said...

Well it was cool seeing team defense tonight. It was everyone falling back to defend. And it was the backs coming up to get into the attack.

I like the look just need to get everyone to MARK UP! DAMN!

Oh well.

was Cooper even in the game? Or maybe he was back at the hotel watching the Olympics.

Can someone please explain to me why if we fcd is down by a goal instead of putting all the forwards in or ppl with more experience SH with his stupid self decided to put Bruno in? Didn't SH see that during the last game Bruno almost made the other team score? If he wanted to sub a midfielder then Dello should have come in and Dom. Abe should have came in not Saragossa.
Everyone knows when you are down you put in all your forwards or ppl with more experience. This was just a bad game and it's a shame b/c fcd could have easily won if SH played the right ppl.
Dom and Cooper were playing together beautifully and then SH messed it all up by putting in Cunnigham who doesn't have any "chemistry" with Cooper.
SH needs to stop putting in his players that he played with in SMU i.e. Bruno and put in the right ppl!
I guarantee if Coop and Dom were playing, it wouldn't have ended like this. This was just disappointing!

so im a very good friend of avi's and i try to watch the games as much as i can (that is when the tv decides they want to broadcast the games in california). im not saying this just because he is my friend... but when coach took him out of the game, it changed the whole dynamic of the game. what a waste to put saragosa in. avi was doing just fine in there. i dont understand... and i talked to him today and he didnt understand either. maybe coach just wanted saragosa to have some playing time (which is understandable.) but ya. thought i'd put my two cents in for once....

Skeeter said...

You Avi lovers are right on the money. When Avi stepped off the pitch, the wind left our sails and our attack was dead in the water. I think this was his best game yet. I like Dax, but I am not sure where he is going to play, because Avi just fits perfectly in that A-mid spot.

Dan said...

Avis' mark scored the first goal. Yes, Avila was playing well but he was starting tolook gassed and it showed on the first goal.

First half was very good. Second half the team got sloppy. Several times players just made stupid plays in simple possession (Serioux, Pitch, Pable, Avi to name a few).

Coop and Sikora disappeared quickly in this game too. And I agree with the "don't change it if it ain't broke" philosophy. But, Cunny got the goal on a wonderful play by Serioux.

Anonymous said...

Cunningham's goal was like so many goals that Abe has scored, served up on a silver platter. Cunningham did NOTHING to get that goal other than be in the right spot.
Cooper and Oduro play TOGETHER on the field. Cunningham and Cooper play on the field - not together.
We played SH's people and what did we get ? A LOSS. Shellas has had 2 weeks of practice with this team, if this is what he wound up with he owes all of us an apology.
I am hearing rumors that we may lose Oduro in all of this. What a shame

Scratch said...

I'm disappointed that we lost, considering we look liked a great team in the first half. I know Cunningham scored, but his passing is awful. He could not hit anybody with the ball, I think Oduro should still be up there. Bring Cunningham in as a sub until he learns to pass. Saragosa is awful, please don't play him anymore. I liked Sikora, he has a good touch and is a little nasty out there. I figure him to have a couple assists this year from his crosses

Anonymous said...

Even if Eric was tierd why put in a D-mid. Every one knows that will kill the flow of the game. If SH felt like he didn't have any options on the bench maybe he should of taken Dax. He could have give 20-30 mins. This just goes to show that SH is over his head. A collage coach that has never one anything.

Anonymous said...

What? Pablo is one of our best players if not the best.

fcdiddy said...

Did anyone REALLY think we would run the table from here to the end? Look at this game as another build. GREAT first half of play from us (maybe our best half in a few years). Second half had 8-10 minutes of inconsistent play, otherwise not that bad. With luck we could have come out with a tie or win. I agree that the second half subd were curious at best, but in fairness to Cunningham, he was dangerous the entire game, and after 2 practices with the team probably sent alot of passes where after another week of working with these guys, he probably wouldn't in the future.

Dax would have been a great sub, but not with jet lag. One thing I still love about the last few games is the work rate of all the players...I still see a good run for the rest of the season.

Agree with Scratch, that Sikpra is going to be a great server from the left side...Kenny needs to read this and be there for the cross.

Anonymous said...

Dax should have been there. Robbie Rogers didn't look jet laged and he played all three game over there. And most of the other olympians were alest on the bench for there team. After we gave up the goal and made the first sub we could not hold on to the ball. NO I don't think we will win all of the remaining games. But that game fell apart because of over coaching. Some times you just have to let the guys play.

3nOut said...

good question about dax. where's he gonna play since he's played more games w/ the nat'l team than w/ FCD? he's not gonna play LM (sikora), holding mid (pablo), RM (rocha) or attack (avi). he seems to be a sub from the looks of things for the meantime.

even tho we made upgrades on the team, this will always affect chemistry. it'll take a couple of games or so to get acquainted w/ vic and ham.

Anonymous said...

you are clueless if you think Pablo is worthless. Def Middies never get any credit.

Sikora will be dangerous

Saragosa sucks

Cunningham is much better than dom or abe....

Anonymous said...

Saragosa plays = we lose.

Anonymous said...

Pairing Cooper and Cunningham there will never be any Chemistry,Physics,Math or logistics between them because they are both after scoring for themselves.

Anonymous said...

Quite liked Cunningham in terms of his ability to time his runs and off the ball movement, but his passing was dreadful.. he did not pair up well with Cooper.. but these things take coaching, practise and time.

Rocha had a good first half but then traded in his duffer boots at half time.. the only problem is that Guarda was even worse.

Was a little suprised at seeing Avi come off, especially for Saragosa who was dreadful.

Sikora started well, but pulled an Alvarez later in the game (disappeared).

Serioux was for me our best player. Great game for him.

Pablo was ok.. plays better with Davino behind him.

Anonymous said...

Cunningham looked great. He put himself into good spots to get good chances. I'm not a fan of the flopping though.

holaspacecadet said...

Dear Schellas, please make Saragosa go far far away

Anonymous said...

Cunningham took Cooper off of his game - Cunningham's passes were horrible. It looks like Cunningham was brought into replace Coop - not compliment him. I was very disappointed in the coaching staff for this game. We made some big moves in the last 2 weeks and out of fainess to the new players I would think that you would not throw them all into the fire together.
Cooper needs someone that can work with him on the field not competely take him out of the game.

Anonymous said...

where did you hear we are going to lose Dom? Man i hope not that would mean honestly crappy abe as our substitute striker. Just when things start to look good for the hoops.

Anonymous said...

Lots of Teams are after Dom,believe me he will leave after this season.Teams are willing to pay him more than the 30,000 per year that FCD is paying and will be quaranteed more playing time.

Anonymous said...

This team is a train wreck. Dom is too good to ride the bench for McDonald's manager money.
This team has huge problems. We are on our 3rd coach in 4 years, the top player is not the DP and is flirting with Europe, our best MF is in Europe. We did not need a striker, so we went out and got one. The owner hired his college coach, the college coach went out and recruited washed up former players; but hey - we do have Oz Fest !
Why would anyone want to come here and play ?The problems with this team are not with the players, and not with what happens on the field - the problems are in the front office. Until that problem is solved - we will continue to downward spiral.
I hope Dom gets picked up by someone else - he deserves it - as do the rest of the guys that have come in here and given it their all to just have the front office screw it all up.

holaspacecadet said...

Dear Schellas, please make Saragosa go far far away

Anonymous said...

First of all, Dom has a contract...he plays here or not at all. Duh.

Second of all, one loss to a Very good MLS team after solid wins does not spell d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r.

Get a grip, this is about building a team and a program. One player or two or even three players and their sensitivies are much less important than the overall goal.

Schellas will get us there.

Anonymous said...

So your still hung up on FCD making money on Oz fest. But you want the players to make more money. So are you going to pay them? If FCD doesn't make money they can't up the players pay. Or would you rather go back to Southlake.

Yeah... y'all need to chill out. Remember that for at least the first 35minutes of this game, Dallas totally dominated Columbus.. it should have been at least 2-0 going into HT.

This team has all the raw ingredients it needs to be successful. They took their foot off the pedal and paid for it..

Anonymous said...

Dom makes just 30,000? Can someone please verify that?

Anonymous said...

no mls player contracts are published. the player's union releases information but these are not official by any means.

Oz Fest is only important because the FO cannot field a team that will draw a full crowd to PHP. If they would quit screwing around and get serious about this team OZ would not be as necessary as it is right now.
No one's contract is iron clad - have you read one ?

....and then he took Avi out! Enough said!

And "dan" he was nowhere near being "gassed out" pleeez.

the subs sucked!!! stop playing players that sucked starting with bruno!!! they come in to hurt us ...think!!!

Anonymous said...

"First of all, Dom has a contract...he plays here or not at all. Duh."
You have no clue what you are talking about. Everyone knows that although a player is under contract if they can asked to be traded and if a team wants them they can go. How do you think Alverez, Toja and Ibee was traded? Get a clue. A MLS player can be traded at anytime and can break their contract at anytime.
So if Dom wants to be traded he can or if he wants to play in Europe he can.
For the question about his salary, yes he only makes $30k a year.
So personally I cannot wait for him to play for another team because FCD doesn't appreciate him!

Anonymous said...

Yes Oduro is well under paid, he deserves way more money than that. He works hard and plays with heart. Look at how well he plays with Cooper and then SH takes him out for Cunnigham. His goal was a cheap shot, other than that there is no chemistry between Cooper and Cunnigham and SH please don't put Bruno in, he sucks!

Roughneck said...

Disappointing not to get at least a point Saturday, but I'm much happier with this team than I was in the first half of the season.

Personally, I like that SH has the courage to make changes when he feels they are needed. Not all of them will work (Bruno's not ready for MLS minutes yet), but a lot of them have been good (moving Adrian to right back -- brilliant; giving Avi major minutes; signing Sikora -- it's early but he looked good Saturday; changing to a 4-4-2, then back to a 3-5-2, and again to a 4-4-2 to find the right shape; unloading Toja for a tidy profit when we have too many center mids). This is a much more entertaining team to watch now. More people are getting into the attack and the players seem to be working harder than they did before.

And I did like what Cunningham brought the other night after only 1 week of training with the team.

A HUGE difference between being traded, released or simply out of contract and being able to walk freely to another team. Moron.

If you were paying attention to what I was trying to explain maybe you would have caught on Moron.
I was just making a point that playing with FCD is not the only option for Oduro.
Think before you act!

What he did was contribute the loss of the game. He took Cooper off of his game and the end result was a loss. That is ALL he did.

Anonymous said...

Goodness, give Cunningham some time to get used to the team. It's easy to be a couch coach now, isn't it? We all need to relax and stop being so negative.

Roughneck said...

Actually, good question, Anon.

Specifically, I liked the way he complemented Kenny when we counter-attacked. Kenny was checking back towards the ball to offer one outlet and Jeff was making a long corresponding run to the outside. That allowed the defenders and midfield to link up with both of them and gave them some options. And at least once, they played the ball to Kenny, who gave it back, and then they played it long to Jeff.

Jeff's passing wasn't very good but I hope that will get better.

Finally got a moment to write in, but really it seems all has been written. DO NOT UNDERSTAND marcello going in at all. What happened to dello? Thought he played really well in Toronto and then he gets stiffed in Columbus? Has anyone told Schellas this is not an SMU alumni game? WHY WHY WHY was Bruno out there? News flash Schellas, 2 high school kids MIGHT go to SMU, let's sign them today and play them and sit Cooper and Cunningham. Great chemistry after LA and Toronto and he does this.....

Casey said...

Schellas, Schellas, Schellas. Why would you change the starting line up after beating LA and Toronto in such a convincing manner. You say Cooper, Oduro, Thompson never really combined. Thompson did not play i believe. Combination is playing people in for an opportunity to score and produce. IT LOOKS LIKE WE DID THIS TO THE BITTER END. DONT MAKE CHANGES PLEASE WHEN WE HAVE THE GAME IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.
