Happy Birthday to us...

The FCD Blog was born on January 2, 2007, with this first post.

Fast forward two years, to today, and we're celebrating our second birthday, and hopefully still going strong heading into 2009.

Since the start, we've made over 900 posts, received thousands of comments, posted hundreds of photos, and provided over 150 videos.

In a way, we've brought fans with us to places like Brazil (a few times), Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and all over the United States. Often times, we've been able to bring you updates directly from players while with their respective national teams in other countries.

While we've avoided, for the most part, being an editorial platform (meaning we typically don't provide our opinions), we've been able to use this medium to provide FC Dallas fans behind the scenes access and frequent updates on all aspects of the team and stadium.

So, on our birthday, we'd like to hear from you. Tell us what you like / dislike about the blog. What you'd like to see more / less of. And, if you have any favorite posts, let us know.

I think a weekly "Captain's Update" would be interesting.

Generally, I wouldn't change anything. More photos and videos are always good though (espsecially photos that link to a hi-res version).

Generally, I really like this blog. You have done a really great job of bringing us some fresh updates, some notes from the staff and some good videos of the players - the "Cribs" stuff was very nice.

The only thing I don't like is when you arbitrarily delete posts. I can understand you wanting to delete posts that feature abusive or racially offensive language.. but I really hate it when you delete posts that you just don't like. If you're going to have an open format blog, then you have to accept all the criticism whether you like it or not.. I can understand if someone posts something that digs into the coaches or players personal lifes.. that is inappropriate.. but some of the stuff that's been deleted in the past year has bordered on 1984 big brother control freak. I don't even know if this post will be deleted or not.

I really love this blog. It is great.

One comment though: I really miss the former blog video director/creator person. I noticed whenever that person left, there have been fewer videos, and videos of less quality with no creative elements/imagination in them.

So if we can have more videos and better videos, that would be good.

Also more events like the foosball tournament, run/walk event, ping-pong tournament, golf, MLS fantasy league contest, photo contest, guitar hero contest, etc that would be good too.

Thank you FCD blog staff! I love you! Yall family 2 me!

How about a "Tip from the Pros" video segment. Kind of like Bobby Moffat's "Soccer Locker" from the 70s.

The blog's great, but what about a proper forum?

I really like the videos, particularly the video interviews of the players, and the after game interviews of SH. Whoever is taking the photographs for the team, both in games and in practice, is doing a great job.

I like the idea of the letters from Hitch; however, I feel the letters posted were marketing "puff pieces" without meaningful content. Continue with the idea, but improve the execution by including more meaningful content.

More SH - he's the guy running the show, I'd like to more know about what he's thinking. For example, post verbatim transcripts of SH's interviews.

Post the results of the season ticket holder roundtable discussions - I don't want to hear the bitching, but I'm sure there were some good ideas in there.

I like the blog - its on my list of websites I check daily.

Happy f-ing Birthday!!! ;-)

Love the blog; dislike the anonymous pos(t)ers.

As stated before, more "insider stuff" (cribs, a day in the life of......)

I love the blog and it's made me want to work in the communications area for a pro sports team.

Keep up the good work and post more behind the scenes coverage like the others have said.

Theblog is great. I agree that deleting the posts just because you don't like them is annoying. Particularly when a post has been up for a couple of days and then you delete it.

I liked the one about the turtle.

Feliz cumpleaños, Pablo! Hope you can stay here with us!

This is a great blog! The only changes I see that are needed are just more content like there used to be (more videos, more event coverage, etc.) A "Captain's Corner" weekly blog update is also a great idea to throw in there.

Happy birthday this is a great way to market to the fans, and i think it will be picked upby a bunch of other sports clubs as time goes by. so being ahead of the curve is worth noting. makes me proud to be a hoopite (?).

this turned into a sort of critique of the site so i guess throwing in my opinions cant hurt.

1) use the sight as a bond more with your core fans, some1 mentioned reporting on the
results of the season ticket holder roundtable discussions, allow a hardcore fan maybe an inferno member (note im not a member of that group so its not a self promo) to do a matchday in the life segment throughout the season. If a group decides to do something cool, like an annual BBQ or something special, maybe throw it out there as a sidebit. In short, give the fans a little bit of meat, help them bond with the club, you can make the sites experience more about the fans experience with the club.

2) increase player to supporter interactivity, live chat with a player or hitch, matchday in the life for a certain player (captain would be great).

3) make Hyndman a center of attention. the guy is a talker, he is the top of the food chain when it comes to representing the club on the pitch. his voice needs to be represented whenever possible. mentioned above but a live chat a month or something over the season with SH and fans, with a post of the conversation for those who couldnt make it.

all in all, its great to see the club any pro club really making an effort on the web, i just think the site is 2 years old now, what creative cutting edge techniques are you using now that you werent then. is there more that can be done to improve the site over that span?

you guys do great, i just dont want Seattle to show up with every feature people have mentioned here and get credit for their web savvy, i get the feeling that group is gonna try everything they can to market the feel of the club to its fans, and i dont wanna lose to those turkeys at anything ever, off the pitch as well as on.

Happy BDay Y'all

Happy Birthday!

Is it possible to eliminate the anonymous posting? I like the videos as well as updates on the youth teams. Plus I agree with the other poster that more interaction with the fans and their experience of the game and the supporters groups would be great too. Maybe shooting a video from the supporter's section so we can get the feel for it. (just some ideas)

I do not like the idea of following an Inferno member, i think we'd lose more fans. I do like the idea of a live chat with a different player and the Captain's update does sound cool too.

And I believe i've been deleted before, and it was because i talked about the Inferno members so sorry if i threw in my jab.

Why not have more from the staff of the team. Asst coaches , trainers and equipment staff, must have some stories about their roles with the team and their experiences.
