Heartbreaker. Things clearly didn't go FCD's way tonight, but the team managed to thwart Colorado's numerous opportunities in the first half and keep it scoreless at halftime. Dallas seemed to get on the right track in the second half, creating some close scoring chances of their own but couldn't convert. The team suffered a setback in the 68th minute when defender George John had to leave the match, looking a bit woozy after a collision with Conor Casey 20 minutes earlier (he would step off the field to have his head wrapped following the knock). Eleven minutes later Colorado scored the only goal it would need to send Dallas home empty-handed. We'll give it to Kosuke Komura on a well-taken finish, but what do you think, was he offside on that run to receive the ball? Game Notes:
• FC Dallas (4-8-5, 17 pts.) falls 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids (6-4-6, 24 pts.) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The team is now 1-5-2 on the road this season.
• The loss snaps FCD’s three-game unbeaten run (2-0-1).
• Dallas is now 23-17-8 all-time versus the Rapids and 7-12-5 in Colorado. Additionally, the team is 1-2-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Rapids home since 2007.
• It was FCD’s second game at Colorado in just over two weeks, after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at DSG Park on June 24. One game remains in the 2009 regular season series between the clubs, an October 17 meeting at Pizza Hut Park.
• George John got the start in central defense. It was the first start for the rookie since the May 16 game versus Seattle, when John left the match after only 28 minutes with a right hamstring injury. He would go on to miss the next five games because of the injury.
• John would leave tonight’s game in the 68th minute, twenty minutes after stepping off the field to have his head wrapped following a collision with the Rapids’ Conor Casey.
• Blake Wagner was a halftime substitution for Kyle Davies at left back. It was the second straight game in which Wagner entered the match to start the second half.
• This was the fourth time that Dallas has been shut out this season, and the first such occurrence since a 1-0 defeat at Houston on May 9, a span of eight games.
• Dallas was without its leading scorer, Kenny Cooper, for the second straight game while the 24-year-old is away with the U.S. Men’s National Team for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Cooper started at forward and logged 63 minutes tonight in the United States’ 2-2 draw with Haiti in Foxborough, Mass. With the result, the USMNT wins Group B and will move on to the quarterfinals on July 18 in Philadelphia.
• Three FCD players have now started all 17 regular season games: Dave van den Bergh, David Ferreira and Drew Moor. Ferreira and Moor have played every minute of the season thus far.
• Five Dallas players missed the game with injuries: goalkeeper Dario Sala (left knee), forward Peri Marosevic (right hamstring), and midfielders Alvaro Sanchez (right ankle), Marcelo Saragosa (right hip) and Michael Dello-Russo (concussion).
• FC Dallas will have nearly two weeks off before its next regular season match, a July 24 contest against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium (9 p.m. CT live on KFWD-52). However, the team will face Guatemalan club CSD Comunicaciones in an international friendly at Pizza Hut Park on July 15 at 7:30 p.m. CT.

oh gee, another loss
Nice job...not. Horrible subs, no attack and a just result. Is this a business of just a labor of love?
clm1403 - Can we please fire S. Hyndman? Pretty please? Does Steve Morrow have a job right now, is it too late to say we goofed that one? I wish Jason Kries wasn't booked.
Nothing from the boys tonight. Brek didn't look too happy coming off, barely acknowledged Shellas when coming off the field.
What's are record with SH again lol?
Why in the hell was Davies subbed?!!!
Do you suppose that there is any team in MLS that loses sleep about facing our dysfunctional attacking midfiel?
Our prolem on attac is that we haven't signed enough Honduran 3rd Division forwards!
Based on the result, the subs tonight were obviously horrible. Hopefully the Coach takes credit.
That goal was offsides by a mile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We got robbed on that one. Send those tapes in to the league office
Rocha was AWESOME tonight!!!! No wonder Avila can't crack the starting lineup.
Yeah we were robbed...of a season.
Two questions as I wasn't able to watch the game. First...are you serious or sarcastic with Rocha being AWESOME? And Avi went in for Brek...where did he play on the field then?
When is SH gonna wake up and realize that when everyone was hurt, it was the young guys that got us the win. Not the same hurt players that started the season. This is upsetting. Drew Moor's long ball is old! I am tired of the lack of possession this team needs to get points on the board.
Start with possession, the rest will fix its self....
8 Wins
13 Losses
13 Ties
The coach owns this loss, he will never admit it, but this is all on him.
Avi looked horrible
^^^^^
totally sarcastic, I would think. Avi needed to be more involved on the right half...Rocha was Ok...too many balls given away and way too much long ball!
Kimura was clearly onside and the Rapids deserved this one. This team looked listless, gutless and devoid of passion. John, Rocha and Shea played a full 90 on Wednesday and Davies, Moor and McCarty a half. These guys looked tired, plain and simple. Guess Schellas has never heard of guest players for a meaningless friendly mid-week. Davies coming off is puzzling but then again, rushing John back on the pitch is equally perplexing. Love what the big guy brings but Davies and Pablo were working in the middle. And Wagner over Wallace, please. Wally has had a few bad gaffes the last few games but he gets yanked after a few games where Wagner had all of last year and most of this year to spare everyone to death. This team is what it is, a bottom rung squad in the West, better than only San Jose.
being a fan of this team hurts worse than brushing your teeth with sand paper.
What a pathetic crowd in Colarado! Once again some very dubious calls by the blind bats in yellow cost FCD a well deserved draw. I will be scanning the Dallas newspapers this week to apply for the FCD head coach positon... I BLOODY WISH!!! Is it not SO obvious that SH can't get the best out of this team. Shellas you are breaking my red and white heart... please quit before it gets even worse. As for the "BOYZ"... I still will follow you as I am an external optimist in search of an optomatrist!!! DALLAS TIL I DIE!!!
That's funny... Dallas making fun of Colorado's attendance. lol
No heart performance in a must win game. Time to make the obvious decision of developing the young guys who want to win. Based on the vets performances this season the time has arrived. 90 minutes going forward for Dax, Brek, Wally, John, Davies, Blake, & Eric (peri soon as well). The veterans obviously don't care and will have practice as the chance to show something. Until they do, let's just focus on developing the right people.
the play was horrible and the coaching was disastrous. when will we ever play attacking football...think sh ever thought to play to win not play to tie?
why would sh even think of putting in avi for shea? why not play shea up top WITH cunningham from the start? take out ferreira...he wont be missed on the field. and this had nothing to do with copper being gone. he would have been another body just standing around. this team looked worn out 20 mins into the game. john was lucky he sat down on the field because guarda was set to come on for rocha. horrible coaching, horrible subs, horrible red shorts! very disappointing game. ps. vdb play till the whistle blows; this is professional football.
" john was lucky he sat down on the field because guarda was set to come on for rocha."
And it amazed me that SH didn't see how much distress John was in. I hope he's okay, because he looked about ready to throw up when he was on the sideline. I am hoping that had more to do with the altitude than a concussion . . .
How did the jrs do last night?
I was critical of the decision to go play out in West Texas this week along with several others on this board. The reason being they had to travel to Denver and play in thin air. The listless play and lack of attack was because they could not breath and got tired quickly. They had no business going to west Texas ahead of this game. What they should have done was spend this week doing some conditioning training to get them in shape to play at altitude.
This brings evidence of two things.
One the coach does not know how to get the team ready, and two the front office does not think.
This is really a key stone cops operation.
How 'bout them Rangers! Cowboy training camp starts in less than three weeks.
No heart, No balls , Useless , Pathetic , embarrasing , Boring , I turned it off to watch a rerun of the Brady Bunch . More exciting than this team that the GM and coaching staff put together. I vote to let the Jrs. finish the season. Send all the foriegn players back and let the American kids play. I will spend no more money or time watching these losers play or not play.
as i predicted one game in the season..no play off fot this team..now the second prediction..attendance under 3000..i have seen some bad coaches in my life but my good sh is the worst soccer coach i have ever seen..as long he is coaching this team will not go anywhere and this team will be bankcrupt in a few years
I would be interested to hear from the front office or owners on there thoughts on the first half of the season. SH has some talented players, he does not know how to use them. He does not understand how to prepare a game strategy. He gets excited over a tie.
I feel sorry for those that are actually spending money going to the games.
On a positvie note. The D looked great for 60min.
Good D by itself cannot possibly do more than tie not WIN SH ..HELLO!!!
can we at least try to put it in the the net?!?
Another note; can we give the rookie John a nickname. I think the "Greek Samurai" would be a good one with his hair (and the headwrap lol)
Anyone find it funny that there's almost double the comments on games after we lose than games where we win?
whats up boys??? here is RICARDINHO YELLOW SHOES... I MISS YOU FANS TO MUCH...I WANNA SAID GOOD LOOK FOR EVERBODY....I BELIEVE BACK ONE DAY.....STAY WITH GOD MY FRIENDS......
clm1403 - just bought tickets to the Houston game in Aug. Keep fighting hoops, GO FCD!
There are twice as many comments because the wins are fluke. A broken clock is right twice a day.
Why did you buy tickets to the Houston game ? What would possess you to spend money on this team ?
Like I said what business do we have going to west Texas to make "new" fans when we play like crap and can't get our own fans from DFW in the stadium????? my humble opinion
I'm going to stick by the players. Regardless of the criticism, there's still some players that give their heart to the team and fight for the shirt.
As for the coach, I don't like SH or his decisions. I think that this season is an obvious indication that he is incompetent.
GO HOOPS!
Anyone find it funny that we never get a Shellas quote after losses anymore?
Schellas has run out of people to blame. It all comes back to him now and he can never admit he was wrong about anything. Thats why you don't hear from him anymore
Does anyone elses skin crawl when SH does an interview? It is just really difficult for me to listen to him drone on. Just my opinion....
5 dollar tickets online to get Stuart Holden and Brian Ching autographs. I think that's a sound investment. (sigh) C'Mon FCD!!!
Our prolem on attac is that we haven't signed enough Honduran 3rd Division forwards!
