FC Dallas fans,

I wanted to give you an update on the many things we have going on in the FC Dallas online world - a place where we know you come to connect with other fans, find unique FC Dallas features and make your voices heard. In the past we've used this blog to communicate directly with you, allowing us to post breaking news, schedule changes, videos and announcements, while simultaneously letting you comment on what you've read.

But as we've launched our all-new FCDallas.com and begun to make improvements, our goal is to turn toward featuring blog-style content on our home site. With the recent integration of Facebook and Twitter to every article on FCDallas.com, you can now comment on any story and share it with friends on both social media sites. Because we're now able to offer you an all-inclusive digital experience on FCDallas.com, we are discontinuing this page beginning Monday, August 30 and instead incorporating the kinds of content you're used to finding on our home site.

We've also read your comments on this blog regarding the kinds of content you'd like to see, and we're going to give you what you're asking for. Daily training reports, communication from FC Dallas players, coaches and me directly – all of this will be available on FCDallas.com, and you'll be able to comment on anything you want.

I hope you'll be pleased with the new and improved FCDallas.com content, and I ask for your patience as we continue to get new features and site improvements off the ground. FC Dallas (9-2-9, 36 pts) is unbeaten through 11 games after Brek Shea scored in the 71st minute to lead FC Dallas to a 1-0 win over visiting Chivas USA Saturday evening at Pizza Hut Park. Dallas will practice Monday on the adidas Field from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. CT. The team has Tuesday off, but will return to the training grounds on Wednesday and Thursday. The team will train in Columbus on Friday, following their morning flight. FC Dallas faces Columbus at Crew Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 28 with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. Central Time. The game airs live on Fox Sports Southwest Plus and ESPN Deportes 1540 AM.

Notable this week:
FC Dallas stretched its unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 1-0 win over Chivas USA Saturday evening at Pizza Hut Park. The win improved FC Dallas' overall record to 9-2-9 (36 pts).

A win or a tie against Columbus on Saturday would give FC Dallas the all-time MLS record for a road unbeaten streak (10 games). The team is currently tied with Columbus (07/10/2004-10/16/2004) and the Chicago Fire (09/08/2007– 05/25/2008) for the record (9 games).

Brek Shea scored his fifth goal of the season on Saturday, nodding a long cross from Jair Benitez back to the far post in the 71st minute. David Ferreira, who delivered the ball to Benitez on the play, recorded his eighth assist of the season. Ferreira now has two goals and three assists in his last three games. He leads FC Dallas with eight assists.
FC Dallas is 4-0-1 when getting a goal from Shea.

Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman recorded his sixth shutout of the season. He made three saves on the night including two in a one minute span midway through the second half. He is MLS’s all-time leader in shutouts (89). He currently leads MLS with a 0.69 goals against average.

Defender Zach Loyd made his 10th start of the season, replacing the injured Ugo Ihemelu (concussion). FC Dallas’ first round draft pick in 2010, Loyd won several tackles near midfield to keep Chivas USA in their defensive third through the first half of the match.

FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman:
It was a very difficult game for both teams. It was like putting your head in an oven out there. That being said, we went out to the field to get three points. We talked during pregame about how we’ve done a good job stealing points on the road. We didn’t want anyone stealing points from us.

On the differences between the first half and the second half…
We played very well. I think we dominated the first half. I don’t think we executed – whether it was a service or a shot or a first touch. The second half they made a couple of adjustments on us. They put [Jonathan] Bornstein in the right midfield. He has a great work ethic. I am sure his responsibility was to stop Jair (Benitez) from getting forward as much as he did in the first half. It’s ironic because Jair did get forward and made the assist on the great goal that Brek scored on the header.

On Kevin Hartman…
Kevin Hartman again comes up with the biggest save of the year. Every time I think it’s the biggest save of the year, there’s another one that’s coming.

FC Dallas defender Zach Loyd:
Getting that goal definitely helped. Once we got the goal our mentality shifted from an attacking style to a defensive style. It’s a team effort and we’ve been doing really well the past several weeks. Hopefully we can continue to work together and continue the momentum.

FC Dallas defender George John:
Not our best performance by any means, but we got a shutout. We got lucky a couple of times and we got a goal, so three points in our pocket. It feels good to keep the streak going.

On going into Columbus next week…
It’s going to be tough. They’re on the top of the board [in the East]. It’s going to be a tough environment, but hopefully we bring our A game and get a good result.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman:
On the goalmouth scramble in the 83rd minute…
We may have lost a guy. They had made some substitutions and I don’t think we got our assignments right as quickly as we could. A little bit of chaos, but fortunately I was able to get across the goal and make the save.

On the FC Dallas 11-game unbeaten streak…
The most important thing for us is that we have found a way to come up with a goal when we need a goal. In the beginning of the season we established a character where it’s tough to beat us. Now, we’re able to persevere through that and get the winning goal. That has enabled us to add some wins to those ties we had early in the season.

Chivas USA head coach Martin Vasquez:
We had a very poor first half. We created chances in the second half, but their goalkeeper came up big. We knew that we were playing against a very good team. Right now, they’re playing well. The heat – our mentality was good – maybe at first we couldn’t settle down because of that, but we finished running and fighting and creating chances. So, it was mainly coming here and knowing we were playing against a very good team.

FC Dallas (8-2-9, 33 pts) tied the MLS record for a road unbeaten streak this weekend by toppling D.C. United 3-1 at RFK Stadium on Saturday. The win marked the ninth consecutive road contest with either a win or draw for FC Dallas. The Dallas side is also unbeaten through its last 10 MLS games, a franchise record. Homegrown rookie Ruben Luna made his debut on the 18-man roster Saturday at D.C. United, but did not see any game action.

Jeff Cunningham scored his seventh goal of the season in the 92nd minute on Saturday. The 2009 Budweiser Golden Boot winner is now just four goals shy of MLS all-time goal scoring leader Jaime Moreno’s 132 mark.

FC Dallas faced D.C. United without midfielder Dax McCarty and defender Ugo Ihemelu. McCarty has not started since FCD’s July 17 contest with Real Salt Lake and has been battling a strained right quadriceps. Ihemelu did not travel after a collision with Philadelphia’s Kyle Nakazawa left the veteran center back with a concussion last Sunday.
